What would be good plugs to run in a stock 1970 beetle engine?

are there some that have found to be better than BOSCH? Champion?

If there are better plugs to run, what are they and what nunber? does anyone know of a chart with the different manufacturer cross-references?

thanks

I've been using NGK for the past 10 years and have been happy with them.

First off you know which which heads you have of if they use 1/2" or 3/4" reach plugs?

You're assuming they are not 3/4" reach heads. If they were 3/4" then W8CC or B5ES would be the plugs to get.

Dumb question time-

How would one go about discovering which they had?

Remove the old plugs and hope hay are correct or remove the valve covers and find the casting markings and see which they use.

They're just crap and they cause misfiring. I'm sure they work fine for other applications though.

What would you recommend running in a very hot climate? A cooler plug? I hooked my bug up to the smog machine and tuned it to damn near perfect and the plugs are showing signs or running hot. How long should you run a set of plugs?

So what markings would indicate which plugs?

iv actully replaced ignition moduals on 1999+ vehicals becuase these plugs have less resistance then normal plugs and cuases the modual to fry over time.

I had read some where that the Bosch Platinum +4 were designed as a spark plug for turbo cars (H20 cooled). The four prong is to make sure that at least one electrode makes a spark. True..Untrue.. I don't know but they do cost a lot more money.

i dont know about the turbo part but my ASEP teacher said the same about the electrodes. pretty-much the four electrodes just give the smark its choice on how to get back to ground. in theory its great and i have noticed that my 95 golf liked them... i dont recommend them on dizzyless systems.

So they don't last longer than super like any other car? Cause on my fox, they last longer than supers. So i'm guessing thats why at my local volkswagen shops, they only sell Bosch super and NGK spark plugs...

Well, I won't use Platinums even on watercooled cars. I've used Bosch series 3-terminal copper plugs on my Golf for years, those the highest milage copper plugs I think you can get. Silver-core plugs were used on later watercooled VW models for high-milage spec plugs too. I'd rather use either of those than Platinums.
However, you can't them in standard reach plugs for aircooled engines.

I think the jury is still out as to how well the new WR8AC+ plugs that Bosch makes now work out for longevity. W8ACs though, I've never had problems with them, even at very high milage.
