With great advice from the boards I went outand just got back from the pick-n-pull with a reservoir from a 240. The reservoir fits, but it doesn't quite seat all the way down into the M/C. is it pretty typical to have a small gap on one of the posts that fit into the M/C?
I tried both sets of ring gaskets and it pretty much fits the same either way.
Should I just get it in place and zip tie it into position?
I can take pictures to explain better if needed.

I had no problems with mine. Did you make sure that your nipples were the same size. If you had 10mm nipples in your MC you need a rabbit resivior, 13mm a volvo 240 should fit like factory.

Its a Varga MC. The nipples fit in fine, they just dont seat all the way down.
Which gaskets work better? The factory or the volvo?

I used the factory. You know, you could spot face those those nipples witha bench grinder???

The Varga (Brazillian)aka the big hole master. Use the Volvo resivoir or use Audi 5000 grommets to use the Rabbit Resivoir.
The ATE, German aka OEM (small hole master). Use the Rabbit Resivoir. file the points off the spouts(not all the way - just the points) and add two o -rings 1/8 x 5/16 id x 9/16 od to give it the proper height - or you'll starve the master |

You can face the fill hole either way. This is a pic of the German master fitted with a Rabbit Resivoir.
Before I came up with this idea and started posting it, I was scouring swap meets looking for 67 bus master cylinders. I kept finding Rabbit masters and realized they had the same distance between ports as the OEM Beetle master ports Hmmmmmmmm.
Duel Circuits for Dunebuggies was then a reality!
Another fellow figgured out the Volvo connection for the Varga. Makes sense though, Volvo used ATE as their brake supplier as well. All of this is variations on ATE parts (the Varga is basically a ATE cylinder clone - and a crappy one at that IMO

Well thank you for sharing the knowledge!!! I know it saved me a ton of headaches and frustration. After a little wiggling and verbal persuasion the reservoir fits just fine now!!! |

| Bringing this thread back to life. Anyone have any idea where to get one (or two) of the volvo reservoirs? I've got a couple of projects that need them and have no time to shop the local yards. |

What year Volvos did is the master cylinder applicable for? There is a old Volvo repair facility not to far from me and the owner is quite accomodating.

Well I guess it's time to put on my other hat and show my true colors!
I've been a Volvo tech for 18 years and have run my own Volvo parts business for the last 7.I typically have 2-4 240's here that I am parting out.
The MC was the same on all 240's 75-93.(technically a few early ones had one fitting that was in a different place but the reservoir was unchanged).
I haven't been moving a lot of cars lately because I'm now playing MR mom to 4 kids 3-9 YO.They keep me plenty busy.
I have 2 240's here right now,(for parts).I'm going to keep one res. for myself but will send the other to whoever wants it.I will also post in the future when I have more in stock.I'm happy to supply as many as I can for free to fellow buggy buddies!
Wish i'd save a lot more as I've moved probably 10-12 240's through here this year.

I just looked up the Volvo part number for the MC resivoir.Volvo part number is:
1206007-5
the check digit is not needed however.Volvo's list price on that fiche was $68.xx,(yeah for just the resivoir).I was working off 2 year old price fiche because that's the most current I have at home but typically on parts that are that old the price doesn't change much.Being a brake part Volvo won't be doing away with them anytime soon. Also remember a LOT of dealers charge OVER manufacturers list,(some by up tp 12%).If you warm up to someone in the VCOA (Volvo Club of America) they can sometimes get a discount through certain Dealerships.In the 90's the hot deal was to order through a certain dealership in Oregon.I don't recall the name as I never did it but you could get like 15-20% off and no sales tax.
I am going to send them out to people as I aquire them on cars I purchase but they will be slow coming,(JSPB,I didn't forget you!).
If there is enough interest I am willing to go pick up a bunch at the pick n pull and send them out to you guys at whatever the cost of the resivoir,the padded mailer and postage is.Not a penny more.I'm just looking to help fellow buggy buddies but I'd like to go get a bunch at once instead of here a res.,there a res. because I can't get to the junkyard that often anymore as I'm now Mr. Mom to my 3,4,7 and 9 year olds.(How do I get ANYTHING done on the buggy)?!
I can also possibly get a better deal if I can catch my buddy there.He is a regional manager for pick n pull and seems to remember me pretty well since I sliced my face open on that car hood a few years ago and needed all those stitches!
I can check price on saturday and start figuring out what it would cost to do it.Shipping in a padded mailer should be under $2.00.I'd be shocked if the res was over $10 and I expect closer to $5. I can get 15-20 of them right away.

Hey guys I have the Rabbit resevoir pictured above with the smaller(10mm) nipples on it..what I did was put pieces of brake hose around these nipples to make up for the difference because I have the bigger grommets (13mm) made for the Volvo MC above..the problem is they are leaking  ..my question is what grommets will work with my 70' bug style MC with the Rabbit resevoir I have? Can I use rabbit grommets or will the Audi 5000 ones work? Or do you think I should just switch to the Volvo resevoir like everyone else and just snap it in? thx
