i know they have baywindow campers but mine is not, how hard would it be to switch out the original backseat out for a z bed and would it still leave room for the middle seat _________________ 1970 bus known as "el roacho" |

I dont think a true z bed effects the back seat if you had a full bench, it just folds down and the z lays on top. Are you wondering if it would hit the middle bench? _________________ _______________________

The front edge of a 68-73 bed is 78" (laid down) from the inside of the hatch, the back of the middle seat at that level in a 71 is 70", gonna be a problem.
Don't know about the Zee brand brackets to convert a standard rear seat, obviously it fits or they woudn't exist, or could you only use them with no middle seat?
It would be pretty challenging for the left side sleeper to get out to pee in the middle of the night with a 3/4 middle seat in the way . _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Oh yeah, it would fit, but you couldn't fold it down into a bed, unless you have 78+" between the hatch and the back of the middle seat.
You would have to move the middle seat forward 8", that's going to be a pain. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

This is what I did to make more room...even though I didn't put a z bed in yet. turn the 3/4 bench around, using the holes more towards the nose for the front, and then drilling holes to mount down the back. So the seats are facing each other. Defeats the walk-through, but makes a really neat hang out. You also have enough leg room for two 6'3" kids to sit across from each other without their knees touching. (I know because I've had it happen) _________________ Don't call it a van. |

The zbed kit on my 77 came with hardware to move the middle seat forward a few inches. I think it actually had a way to extend the legs of the seat backwards, as well as some new hardware to screw down the seat. Never liked in that position (reduced legroom for middle seat enough to be weird). Too bad i don't still have the seat or I'd give you the hardware. I"ll check to see if I still hav ethe paperwork that came with it. Might be a diagram you can use to fab something. _________________ '77 Bay Window / '89 Caratsburg (aka. the Stormtrooper) |

I found this in my p/o file. Note that the middle seat has some extra legs added to the back as part of the kit.
