I didn't know where to put this story, so I desided to put it here.
The bugs involved in this story are mainly from post oval era, but it all started with an oval – my oval.
I went early in the morning to the garage to do some work on the oval, but a friend of mine came and got me out for a “short” ride with his ’60 standard.
We went to a meeting with another friend who has a ’58 ragtop.
Then we decided to go and see the new ’50 standard, which the first of my friends recently bought.
(this is my oval wheel, the original bat one is currently restoring)
So the short ride took all the day and I couldn’t finish the rear fender I started the day before.

Thanks for the pics Krum. I assume that std split is the one you e-mailed me about parts for.
I always enjoy seeing pics of VWs from other parts of the world.
That '60s standard doesn't look like much a standard though. That is, it has chrome, moldings, full headliner, ivory wheel... exactly what makes it a standard?? _________________ John Henry

if you bought a standard in the uk, it came with chrome bumpers, headlamp rings and hubcaps from the factory. |

Yes, this is the split I emailed you about parts, John.
The '60 is deluxe, not standard - it was my mistake.
He claims that this car ('60) was in worst condition when he bought it 6 years ago than his '50 is now.
Also the deck lid is from earlier car, but he explained that he likes it this way.
I guess he is not much in "correctness”...
Unfortunately my car is going to be the same way - the chassis is from '53, the coupe is from '56 and the engine is post '60....
But there is nothing I can do here - the car was bought and registered this way and I can't reregister it if I change the chassis or the engine, on the other hand - I can't find a '53 coupe here in Bulgaria, so I am stuck to these major incorrectness’s. The best I could do is stuck to a chosen year and try to do it as much correct to this year as is possible with only color differences.
The year I stopped on is ’56 (because of the coupe, the most noticeable part of the car).
Later I can always redo the interior and repaint the car if I decide to go to an original VW color. |
