This may not pertain to racers. But for us civilians how do you go about sealing the wheel wells around the shocks and straps?
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
I’m looking for ideas on how to keep water/mud out.
Thanks.

Still no seat time? What's stopping you from doing a shake down run?

Make an aluminum ring the same shape as the hole, get a kids sized wetsuit (neopreme) and cut off the arms and use that to go over the shock, bolt it down using the aluminum ring to hold it in place. |

Like that. ^ ^ ^
Look at the shifter boot on any older truck. Our old farm trucks had accordion rubber boots over their shifters. Dust gets in everywhere else.
Seriously, your "problem" is complicated by the limiter strap that shares its mount with the shock. If you make a vinyl sock you can zip tie or hose clamp it around the shock. Fabricate a flange to hold the bottom of your boot tight to the bodywork.
For a belt and suspenders approach fabricate a tin box to surround the shock and she shock mount. It's "belt and suspenders" because the boot keeps most of the crap out. A "can" around everything contains the rest.
If you omit the boot your "can" will just fill up with dirt.
Alternatively you could cut away more of the inner fender to gain access to your shock mount from the outside. You might have to cut through the fender mounting flange. Fit a "can" tight to the inner bodywork. Seam seal and paint it.

Thanks guys this is good stuff. Yea the upper strap location seemed like a good idea at first but now I’m rethinking it. Maybe down the road I’ll change it. |
