Greetings, I am replacing the rear luggage shelf in my 67 Hard Top and was wondering if there are any lessons learned. I have done the search and also seen the tech article on the VW Trends Web Site.
I would like to replace the whole shelf & Firewall and leave the engine seal lip support installed. I can fabricate and fit but I’m not much of a welder so this part will be outsourced. My question is:
Any books that show this indetail?
Is this the best method or should I replace everything, or just the shelf and leave the firewall lip seal original and blend it in. The replacement shelf is from VW of Mexico and it comes as a set. Car has never been hit and the engine is still installed. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Send me an email to [email protected] and I will send you pictures of the job when it was done on my 70 Beetle. Good luck. |

I have a 72 type 1 and the luggage shelf is destroyed. I need a picture of what it all looks like. From the back of the seat to back window. I don't need anything that involves the sheet metal just the parts with the carpet on that you I guess open to store luggage. How it works I can't find anything on this |

Did a quick search for "beetle luggage carpet" and got four results. This one shows pretty well that area.
