Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right place but I'm shooting my shot here. I have an undergrad thesis I'm working on and the Beetle happened to be a good choice of model, given it's a relatively common carburated vehicle with relatively simple mufflers. The issue is, I can't find some important information to model the engine.

The model I recorded and measured was specifically the Brazilian 1974 1300cc Beetle, manual gives me the bore and cylinder travel, which is great, but I need the length of the p/n 311 105 411 A connecting rod (center-to-center).
The manual also gives me the ignition timing (10° BTDC) but nothing on the exhaust and intake valve times...

If anyone could help with this information (or even better, know where I can find drafts for the parts?!) I'd be immensely thankful.

Good evening

137mm
215/210 @ .050"
Asking for blueprints on a forum usually does not work. Trust me, I've been around forums for awhile.

Wow thanks guys, super helpful! Surprised
Do any of y'all happen to know the open and closure timing of intake and exhaust valves in relation to TDC or BDC too? That's missing from the manual as well.

Also, the valve cams and connecting rod are the same between the 1300, 1300L and 1500, correct?

Cam timing is measured at a specific lift.
What lift do you want to use?
USA standard is .050" and .015"
Germany used 1mm and lash setting

I could probably use the 1mm lift points for closure and opening, seems adequate that it is 10x the valve gap with a cold engine according to the manual (plus I'm not using a crevice model for leaks through such small gaps).

With a time-step in the order of 0.1ms the time between the 1mm lift and maximum lift shouldn't be more than one timestep I reckon, but if you have the maximum lift of the valve's that'd be also helpful, as well as their diameter (also not present in the manual...). The methodology I'm following models the flow through valves as a pressure drop, using a C_D of 0.7.

I think the valve sizes were 33x31mm
This is a singleport engine?
They had a dual port 1300 in germany.... but I bet in Brazil it would be more similar to a 1966 model

Correct, it's two valves (exhaust and intake) per cylinder. Thanks a lot again, this has been incredibly helpful!!

Also not to abuse the kindness, but is there any threads here (couldn't find on search) for the different engine parts weights? I found the weight for the conrod, which is fantastic, but couldn't find anywhere the same for the crankshaft and pistons
