Finally doing this mod.
Notice this van already has the Westy Table vertical slider modification from way back.... 16 years ago.... Wink
A table mod every 16 years ain't so bad.

Putting a bend in the table support so the table can rotate adjacent to the stove.

I saw it somewhere .... but can't find it .....
so I had to re-pioneer it.

You can see my wooden test-rig.
Need to take a 40° sector out of the support and re-weld it.

Note: This is the smaller “front” table on the long table-arm.

Interesting, and I'd say a very useful mod!
Just what are you going to use for the "knee" part of the bend?

Sorry to ask but what’s the benefit? Seems like it only makes the stove harder to reach.

Maybe it just SEEMS better! Wink

The knee-bend allows the table to move 8” forward
plus 8” closer to the stove.

Table width is 2x 8.25.
You can see my "almost oopsy" (red sharpie lines).
I was surprised that the sharpie would not wash off the Westy paint.
It sinks right in.

I think most of the times I've wanted this mod was when emptying the storage bin to fill the water tank.
Maybe I should improve the water tank filling procedure.....

But there have been lots of times I've wished the table would swing that 'extra 40°' right up next to the stove.
I mean.....what the heck?
Exclamation Gimme that 40° Exclamation !

Might be good for washing dishes.
Or some wicked cooking. Twisted Evil

=======

Well nothin' left to do but find some proper paint for the arm.
Exclamation And give it a good test. Exclamation

A test trip is coming up soon!
We'll be leaving for San Luis Obispo in a few days, then stopping by Syncrofest, then hanging around Tahoe a bit.

Neato. This appeals to my sense of symmetry and space efficiency. Filling the water, getting stuff out of the compartments or just moving the table a bit farther out of the way when it's not swung against the wall each seem like a benefit. In 25+ years of living with a westy I never thought of this once.

Aha Sodo, now I see what you wanted. I expected to see a bending joint, like a knee. Laughing

That is a very cool mod!

My solution is that my raised point is such there the table swings over the stove. It is a good hight for food prep with the top up and it allows it to swing it of the way that you're accomplishes.
