|
|
I have just finished redoing the foam on the rear bench of my 79 Westy. When I put the pieces back on, I noticed that the springs that go in the pullout mechanism have come loose. Does someone have a diagram/picture of how they should go?
Thanks |

If you post pictures of your problem area someone may recognise what is wrong. |

If anyone could post a picture of how there bench seat/folding bed mechanism works, that would be a big help. |

Im guessing your hosting site cant handle the bandwidth or only allows you a certain number of views per day. Try setting up a photobucket album with an email account you dont care about, it sends about four or five spam messages per day but it is very stable and unlimited page views. |

And it's waaaaay slow to render the image. If it has anything to do with your bus you can post them here in the gallery.
Anyway this is a shot of the spring on mine. The loose end on yours should attach to a notch in the hinge above where yours is still connected. These are taken from the front of the bench, not from the rear like in your shots.
This is in the upright position. Notice how it comes over the top of the hinge pin and not under.
This is with the bench in the folded out/bed position. It's not completely flat in this shot but about 3/4 folded out.

Ah!
Thanks for the Hint on posting photos. I'll try to be a better thesamba.com citizen in the future.
To the spring goes in a hole in the metal mounts?
I'm having trouble with the frame of reference. Would it be possible to post some zoomed out photos as well?
Thanks |

The top of the spring (the loose end in your photo) hooks into a notch on the hinge. Your whole spring assembly needs to be pushed towards the front of the bench and around this pin as seen here. These are taken with the bed in the upright/sitting position from the front. Click on the photos in this post to get a more clear, uncompressed view.
Drivers side:
Passenger side:
The catch that is hanging in your photos will work like this:
Close up, passenger side of the catch that allows the front of the bed to be lifted and held into a 90° angle when the bed is pulled out to allow access to the storage space. This is in the 90° position. There is the same catch on the other side.
Same shot from further away to give some frame of reference. Looking up from under the front cushion:
To release the catch, push the front of the bed flat towards the rear of the bus. The spring will pull the catch back and away from the pin. The front can then be lowered back into the sleeping position.
Hope that makes a little more sense. _________________ Jasan C.

It does, thanks. Unfortunatley I have bent them all out to heck. Any idea where I would be able to get replacements? |

The springs or the hinge catch? You should be able to find a suitable spring at any hardware store. As for the catch, junk yard or find someone parting out a Westy. It looks like yours are in good shape though. _________________ Jasan C.

That bit was supposed to do something?
The hinges on my 73 had the pins bent all to heck and no springs. _________________ No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. |
