You need frickin oven mits just to touch the steering wheel. Its amazing how fast you learn to drive without touching the steering wheel. I feel your pain and don't miss those days a bit. |
Today I used a pair of pajama flannels I found in my backseat "get away bag," to cover my hands while driving. That stearing wheel was HOT! I've also learned to drive with my knees and fingertips alternating touching the stearing wheel on these hot days. The big problem is the 3rd degree burn on my back...wearing a tank top and leaning back into the seat was a huge mistake. As for the heat, it was 105 up here and about 150 in the Bug. Rolling down and pushing open windows did not help at all...can't wait for winter when I start complaining about no heater in the Bug. In survival training courses, they tell you to keep your head and the base of your neck cool. Wearing a damp baseball cap on your head or a moist hankerchief around your neck makes the ride quite tolerable.
No kidding. |

At a cruise yesterday an old-timer told me he had a bug and he lived a mile from work and on cold days he would just walk because by the time the bug warmed up and he scraped the ice off the windshield he would have been at work already. |

try one of these:

Soak it in water and it will keep you cool for hours. i use it in my kayak all the time. makes for some nasty tan lines on the neck, but who cares? _________________ Cashtration: The act of buying a Beetle and then emptying your bank accounts. |

along the lines of the neck cooler idea...... take a sock or a piece of fabric sewn into a tube with one end sewn shut, fill it 1/2 full with white rice close it up and put it in the freezer, you'll be suprised how long it stays cool. Also works the other way, put it in the microwave and it'll stay warm for quite a while. (DON"T USE INSTANT RICE) _________________ '68 bug (Sadie)

I took the broken stereo out so now I have a nice hole in the dash for cool air to blow through. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

And the heat and sweat from your neck will make the rice swell up and cook and you'll have lunch when you get to your destination |
