normaly you can use all 356 coolers, but some need some modifications, one type has 8mm studs, you ned to drill abigger whole in the enginecase to fix the oilcooler (6mmstud), the later 356c or 912 cooler have on top a nut to screw them on the fanhousing (vibration), you can cut this without any problem...

and also, there are different typs of fanhousings, one 36hp housings have on top in the front a dent, that ones whick have to be modified to fit on a 356 cooler... (have not enenough hight to some vanes)

Attached are copies of the time slips from the Drag day last Sunday, September 16th for the Brukrasa 36HP VW beetle.

After rainouts a month ago, we finally got our drag strip day completed for test & tune. I got 8 passes in and tried different combinations of tire diameter & exhaust mods. The Brukrasa 36HP Vintage sedan ran 73.13 MPH @ 17.8 sec in the quarter mile. We had some wheel hop problems at first but had a really good time. The motor is still alive and ready to go to Maxton in October for the ECTA standing mile runs.

I don't know how these times compare to other vintage speed VW's but ThomasKaefer should know.

Hello Tom!

Sounds great to me, really!

This weekend in germany there is race-weekend at Bitburg Airfield. I think, regarding on the last two years, a lot of oldspeed cars will be there!

I expect some comparing time to yours... so stay updated at oldspeed-register!

Regards

Thomas

P.S.: Would it be possible for you to send me a filled out version of this?

My friend Tom just ran a 36hp NA engine at Maxton NC. In the standing mile they ran 91mph. The cam is too mild. They used a cam for a turbo setup. I have a few 36hp engines I'm restoring for running displays and my Oval. It's been really fun watching all the work that goes into a race 36hp. Who would have thought it? They're running at Bonneville next - after the cam gets swapped... Search the old Bonneville records for Tom Bruch and Bruch Motorwerks. -ralph

For Tom's current NA 36hp record:

Congrats kever57 to this engine, a real eye catcher! Shocked

BUT you overstep now a border where the question comes up where to stop.....

This engine is now 100% Porsche except the case (and this was also used one early Porsches). Are the cylinders and pistons vw?

You`ve tuned a porsche engine and not a 36hp, just my 2cents.

Oval56 and i want to use the 74mm crank and rods of Porsche, the same problem.
Where to stop with Porsche parts? No problem to get horsepower with this parts.

Wasn`t the aim of the game to power up with 36hp parts?

I don`t know....

Wolfgang

the engine on the piture have only the 356heads and 356 big bore cilinders, the pistons are vw typ1 87mm from 1641cc,the pushrods, flywheel, crank and rods are std from 36HP only the rods are small end up from 20mm to 22m. the cam is from 36hp and and have the degrees from 356s90.
this have also straight cut gears on the cam and crank.

i think that this engine have a lot of vw parts. denzel or okrassa heads are too expensive for me. if i found 1set for a good price then i put them on the next engine.

here in europe i think there is nobody that makes fast 36hp engines,i run whit my car between the others whit typ1 or typ4. only on dasdragday is there oldspeedchallange and then drive max5 cars with judson or okrassa kit. there is only 1 rule,it have to be an original crankcase.
next year whit my shorrock on it i hope to be much faster and then i hope to drive agains typ1 Rolling Eyes

you're wrong dude... but not completely... actually, the BZH french crew isn't preparing vintage speed 36HP, but 25PS... The first one develops around 80PS, in a fully vintage 51 beetle. '50 block, Okrasa 25PS heads, 356 pre-A crankshaft, pre-A cylinders, and two 40 PII... First difficulty: find the right parts. Second difficulty: try to put them together so that everything works...

some infos here:

http://forums.pre67vw.co.uk/default.htm in the section forums/vintage speed/french okrasa

and here:

http://vwisgood4you.skynetblogs.be/

next projects: a prep for the '51 Barndoor and for my '53 Standard. The question is: which preps?... Very Happy

some update on my projekt, i do have now all parts back from my machineshop ( heads / new valve guides, valveseats.....)

now i do have 36mm inletvalves, and bore 78,5mm, the crank is a 356 porsche ( 74mm ) also the rods are 356 ( balanced and ligthened )

also i have to use some spacers (11mm) for the cylinders, the compresion now is 8,7:1

the porting of the heads was a long and hard to do job for me, to get all in the same shape... now i will put all parts together step by step Smile
