It looks like the Lake Delancy campground is very primitive. I will probably have to stay at Rodman Dam or Salt Springs Campground in order to take my camper. If others are staying in different places we need to designate a meeting place and time. FWIW cell phones are totally useless there.
I believe that if your vehicle is tagged you can ride almost any trail.
I'm not a hunter, but is it hunting season? |

The trails have markers on them that show whether its for motorcycles (& 4 wheelers) or jeeps (& Dune Buggy's) or both.
Hunting season is over too.
The nice thing is that only Jeeps and Dune Buggy's are allowed to ride at night. Hunters can only hunt between sun-up and sun-down, but they also won't hunt during the mid day. So unless you are riding in the morning or dusk, you don't have to worry about hunters. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

Hi, Im kinda new to the Samba and air cooled VW's, Im building a buggy (warrior), actually 2 of them... but a side from that, I know Ocala like the back of my hand, I help sponser a jeep cluba nd we ride out there all the time. Id love to go and ride out there with you all, and see your buggys. Im over in the DeBary area. Actually our jeep club has a ride on the 16th too...
There are some really great areas for non-4x4s to ride out there, but they have been shutting down a bunch of the trails, mostly only numbered roads open now... so you would have to have a tag. Im real familure with any area from 40 north to buck lake and west to 75 east to SJR. |

Would you be available to go Feb-29 to Mar-2? I don't have any extra room in my buggy (my wife LOVE'S to ride) but we may be able to find a spot for you. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

I have no problem with it. As a matter of fact I have often wondered if the Jeep guys would let me ride with them. I don't do mud just sand. |

That’s a good idea. I also think my family likes the idea for staying at Salt Spring (They like hot showers ). I don’t know the area well enough to setup any meet up spot.

Really hope you can make it out. If it makes you feel better I have been talking with another Jeep guy that says he’s coming. Also does the jeep club you ride with allow rails to join there meets? Most Jeep clubs that I have talked to don’t want us vw guys around (I personally think its because I’ve put some jeeps to shame in the mud hole )
On a side note I found a real good place to ride just north of Polk county. Its called Richloam. Its at the intersection of 471 and 50 in Sumter County FL. Let me know if anyone wants more info. |

LOL yeah this is mostly all true about the jeep guys.. but we are different, we are even the out casts of the "Typical Jeep" clubs.. were L.O.S.T www.lostkjs.com, A Liberty jeep club, yeah i ride kinda fast too... the wrangler guys dont like that, built for mud and low gearing...
Yeah we have tons of libys in our group, a couple wranglers and a few Troopers and Yodas, so a VW would be welcomed, on the rides you guys could make it thru.... we do lost of high water and mud too, so...
here is some pics from our last ride in Ocala http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16745
Yeah I can make it the 29th weekend, if anyone is interested in going with us on the 16th then let me know, Im trying to get us out to Hard Rock, a huge off road park in Ocala... or maybe the sand pit we go too. |

Whats the story with Hard Rock and the sand pit? Are they private property? _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

I live in New Smyrna so I will probably ride up to the Port Orange show and take a look. Probably won't enter it though, I don't enjoy sitting in the sun all day. Let me know what time you plan to be there and we can say hello.
When we went to Ocala we went back to the campground for lunch and stuff. Very informal. I'm open for anything though. |

I just made reservations in Rodman Dam campground. I'm staying Fri. 29th till Sunday afternoon the 2nd. Had to reserve Sunday night too so I don't have to check out early. $23.98 a night up to five people. Their number if anyone is interested 386-326-2846
I checked the Salt Springs campground, but all the RV sites are filled with snowbirds. They have plenty of tent site though.
I'm in the new part of Rodman campground site #56. The last time I was there I was in a tent right across from where I will be this time. It is very nice and has a nice bath house. If anyone else wants to stay there also.
Can't wait. |

Your asking to many questions This is the first group ride I have ever done so... I don't know what we should do. Lunch sounds like a good Idea, especially if we are all staying in different cam sites. Anyone have suggestions on lunch? also a time and place to get together?
I will look into the Rodman camp site... will let you know if I get reservations |

vw505 that looks like a fun place.
Drift: Are you still planning on making a recon run before the actual get together?
The last time we went we all met for breakfast at the little restaurant at Salt Springs. Someone was late. I won't mention any names so Florida Buggy Dave won't get his feelings hurt.
I guess it all depends on where everyone is staying.
We did some Geocaching which was a good way to find places we wouldn't have before. I bet Dave will bring some coordinates. We may not need that with mudtrac though. |

Yeah, your right I guess... HardRock is more hills than anything else, but Eureka is perfect for sand runs, plus all the dirt roads running out to there are nice and long and straight. Have you ever been back in the deer haven / St Francis area? lots of straight roads soft sand and woopty doos.
Well this weekend I took the floor out (with tons of brute force, and a sawzall) to make way for the new diamond plate. Ground down the bottom tubes and finished sanding the bottom tubes. Now I need to finish the top side and this next weekend will be paint... |
