Should be just a couple bolts mine are aftermarket so no help there.
Grab a Bentley manual, local libraries carry them also.

I believe they drop out the bottom like the engine. >kidding<

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a '72 is somewhat similar to a '73: Get on your knees beside the car & look under the seat, see that safety catch at the front center? Hold that open with a screwdriver & you'll see how to slide it out. Makes sense once you can see it.

They come out the front, There is a tab on the tunnel side rail (front) Push it down and slide the seat out. Good luck. Pat

Yet another confusing thread about seat removal ...

For a '72 there are no bolts and it is not like a '73.
They slide out toward the front. Remove the big extension spring underneath the seat first, then each seat has a spring tab on the right side that has to be depressed as you hold the adjustment lever up and push the seat forward. It helps to have three hands. Wink
Take the right seat out first so that it's easier to access the spring tab for the left seat.

It's shown in the '72 owner's manual:

*edit - ts88 said it much simpler while my slow typing was happening. Laughing

If they are stuck get in the back and push with your feet while someone else holds the lever and tab. Tell the someone else to keep their head out of the path of the seat because it can release suddenly and shoot forward. (lost more wives that way)

What if the passenger's seat is all the way back and stuck. And I mean stuck. I don't see how there is enough room to even get a rubber mallet in there.

Speaking of manuals. My insurance co. said the Super Beetle is classified as a "high performance vehicle" Surprised . They were not joking. I said if that was the case I wanted the "safety feature" discount for the "break a way" steering wheel and locking tensioners on the seat belt. The insurer was dying laughing at this point and said if I faxed them a copy of it from a manual, NOT the internet, they would. (I think they posted it on their wall.) UN B LIEVABLE.

Spray some PBlaster on the runners and let it soak for a while and then repeat. Squeeze yourself or a strong friend in the back seat while the other person holds the seat lever and PUSH (grunting and swearing will be required). Been there, done that, and own the t-shirt.

Step 1- Grab your owners manual (or goto the tech/manual section of samba)

Step 2- Look it up

Step 3- Do as it says

Decided to bring this thread back rather than start my own.

72 Super, same seat design. I know how to take them out by sliding forward, depressing the tab, and pushing them forward until off the track.

Now my question deals with the spings underneath. The springs were disconnected when I bought the car. Finally, I've gotten around to wanting to reconnect them and I can't see anywhere to attach the springs on the seats themselves. I've reattachhed the springs on a 71 super and for the life of me cannot remember what they hooked on to.

Pictures are always nice. Thanks in advance because I know it's a simple fix...unlesss a PO hacked something. Rolling Eyes

Since this is a seat topic, anyone know where to find a rear seat for a 68 beetle?

Study the pic Scott posted above. You should see a point on the floor as well as the seat where the spring connects. If you have trouble, drop me a PM and I'll snap some pics of my car as the interior has been stripped.

Sure. Post a "Wanted" ad in the classifieds.

There's no tab with a hole on my seats. PO hack? There are small holes on the back of the seat frames.
