|

I have an Automatic Transmission and was wondering just how rare they are. I purchased a 68 dune buggy and it had a true automatic tranny in it. Not an auto stick but a true auto. Someone told me that those trannys are very rare. I was told it may have come from a type 3 or a Thing. Can anyone confirm this for me and tell me where I can get parts for it just in case I need some...........Thanks |

Pretty darned rare in a Beetle. And it didn't come from a Thing. It could be a Type 3, but the chassis would have had to be heavily modified to get it to fit, since it's too narrow. Does it have VW logos on it? Can you see a transmission number on the right side? _________________ Mike

Yes I have numbers for it............. 003.321.105 E ............... It's stamped VW on it also. Yes the previous owner cut off the original horns in the back and made up some mickey mouse tranny holder that when I had purchased it, it was all comming apart from bad welds. Since then I removed all the bad stuff and have started to refabricate a new tranny support from 2 inch squre 1/4 wall tubing..... |

It's a Type 3 automatic. _________________ Glenn
