Does anyone sell a fender liner? Something like molded plastic that will go inside the fender and prevent dents and chips from hitting the fender. I'm planning on undercoating, but a big enough rock will still cause a dent if it gets thrown. |

You could also try the auto wreckers. It's amazing how some of the OEM rear fender liners can still be in good shape. I pulled a pair out of an otherwise rusty early '70's Beetle a few years ago and was surprised at how solid the plastic still was...I cleaned it up and installed in another Beetle _________________ Neil.

No but I've got them on the back half of the rear fenders on my 62. My friend Rick had made a template for them off of ones he found on a customer's car many years ago. I bought some plastic material and cut out a couple of sets. They just pop in under the edge of the fender and stay in place. They work pretty good, actually. Especially with thin aftermarket fenders, and the dirt roads I occasionally drive on, that really help with rock chips.

I didn't know they made original fender liners. |
It could have been for cold-weather countries...to reduce road salt and sand damage perhaps? My brother's '71 Beetle, that he bought brand new from the dealer in high school, came with liners already installed...they were perfectly molded to match the tail light shape, wire holes, etc and were black rigid plastic. _________________ Neil.

certainly never got anything like it here
my 71super came with big metal ones under the back guards but i think they may have been used for mounting mudflaps as well as protecting the inside of the gaurds _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

My '71 Super was low miles, all original, even has the original Continental spare tire and piece of cardboard over the regulator.
And it has fender liners, rear only, that are in great shape. Must have come with the car because the Grandmother that owned it did not mess with it. Still had throttle positioner etc.

Here is the original liner from a '71 Super.
I could have fiberglass copies made if enough people are interested. I've had great success with fiberglass reproductions of the "71 rear inside defrost vents. There is a great fiberglass shop here in town.

Guys, you never quit surprising me. Down here in Puerto Rico we never had (ve) to worry about most of your worries when it comes to snow, ice, salt, etc..., just corrossion from the sea winds. I thought Keifernet was funny but the after seeing that last pic I wonder; who's pulling my leg? And the again |

Jim, that does look nice! Is there, by the way, any VW part number on it anywhere? |

Vacuum formed ABS is the way to go. Just like the original. Probably be a LOT cheaper too. _________________
