Those are on my local craigslist. Any chance they'd fit the vanagon? _________________

I think that's going to be a 45 ET, so 15 mm adapters, you'll have to bore the center out, and possibly the 5 lugs too.
A lot of work and expense in my opinion, and for wheels that are at least double of what would be a good price. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

I have a set of 15" steelies from a Eurovan lying around doing nothing !!!.....what do i need to do to make them fit the syncro vanagon ???....i believe the centre bore needs opening up...how much ?, and how should i do it ?
Will the standard hardware work ?
Thanks |
Hey Mick,
The Eurovan usually uses a fairly high offset wheel. I haven't looked it up, but I think that the 15 Eurovan wheels are a 45mm offset. depending on the width of the wheels, a 12-15mm spacer would be required along with longer rear wheel studs, proper rear lug nuts and longer front lug bolts.
I recommend that the centers of the wheels need to be opened up to 66.56mm. Best to have a machine shop do the work since the wheels are balanced off of that center hole. If the center hole is not true, the wheels will be very difficult to balance. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Levi is right, those are a 15x7 ET45. The centerbores will have to be opened up, longer rear wheels studs, proper lug nuts, longer front lug bolts and 15mm spacers. Stock center caps will not fit. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

A few pics of some previous rim/tire combos.
Borbet type A 17x8.5 and 17x10 (I will see what the offset is.) These were made by Projekt Zwo specialy for T3's (vanagons)
AMG Penta wheels 16x8
Stock wheels with Goodyear Cargo ultra grip.
Stock Syncro 16 wheels on my old self made westy
My Eurovan with 17x8 RH wheels (Had them on my DOKA too with different spacers from RH.
Atzev type A wheels made for Projekt Zwo 17x8.5 and 17x10 (machined out center bores to 66mm) had them on my Passat for a while just to see.
Another one with the Amg Penta wheels
Same van with 15" ARC wheels
Another set of wheels from my trusty rusty W126 that ended up on one of my VW's
And another set of AMG penta wheels on my first DOKA
Another W126 that I used to own (these BBS wheels would have looked good on my new DOKA.)
Had these wheels that were turbo twist replicas from RH as well. Had spacers from RH.

Will wheels from a Mercedes (I think a 300) fit? The size is 6.5x15 ET 44. Thank you. _________________ 88 Weekender 2.1 manual. |

Anyone know anything about these rims?
Mercedes 17" rims, I have no idea about the rest of the data. Center hole looks big so maybe if the ET is not too far off? _________________ 1990 syncro 1.6TD "Smily"

I looked at this style before settling with the clk.
There's at least 5 in that same style from merc in the 17" size.
They have them in both 15 and 35 ET, and both 7 1/2 and 8" wide.
Although all but one has a super high gloss, the one set that doesn't have a high gloss, like these, is 8" and 35 ET. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

So they should fit? The set in the pic is for sale here at a pretty decent price (about 400$) with good 225/45-17 tires so i might put them on my Christmas wish list. _________________ 1990 syncro 1.6TD "Smily"

I can't say for sure.
If I was to guess, I'd say it's close but will not fit without a spacer.
If the tires were 205 it might, but with the 225 width and being 8" instead of 7-1/2, I think you'd need about 10mm spacer.
Loogy, of course, would know.
Here's some more info:

I know of one like that which is 7 1/2 on the rim width, ET 41.
Still need about a 10mm spacer.
But, like the previously mentioned wheel, there may be multiple mercedes wheels that look identical, but have a different et. I only know of this one though. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Is 19" too much? What about these Audi rims tire size is 245x40x19. _________________ I have never owned a VW I didn't like, but there have been a few Fords and Chevy's.

Yes, we will have to know the widths and offsets of those wheels before we can tell you very much. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

If those are factory Mercedes wheels, they should be 16x7.5 ET41, like Levi said. Assuming that they are, I would run a 12mm spacer on a 2wd. You could probably get away with a 10mm spacer if you run a 215 or narrower tire. With either the 10 or 12mm spacer, you will need to run stick-on wheel weights on the front wheels as the clip-on weights usually cause some interference with the upright. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

19" wheels will fit just fine on a Vanagon, but the concave centers of those will definitely cause clearance problems with the center caps. By the looks of them and the 245 tires, which are too wide for the front, they must be 8.5 or 9" wide. I can maybe see running a 19x8.5 on the front, but a 19x9 is just too wide. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Those wheels are a 16x7.5 ET41. I would suggest running 12mm spacers on a 2wd. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)
