I see no front plate, what was the rear?

Did you look at the VIN? Did it look to be the original 17 digit vin, or did it have a US assigned VIN?

Found in a parking lot after spotting it driving down the street.

Yea now that would have made to much sense to look at the VIN now. This looked like some kind if mule. It had its share of scratches and french fries on the floor.
If VW sent us this ,I wouldn't be driving a Toyota as a people mover.

Well if you ever find it in the future, or something like it, grab the vin if you can read it through the windshield.

Years ago I found a new london taxi that had been imported, legally, to the US, I took a picture of the vin with the intention of running a vin check to see what it showed, I still have the picture, somewhere, but was never able to find it when I had the opportunity to run the vin.

Slightly off topic, but Nieman Marcus was selling US-legal London taxicabs in their obnoxiously extravagant Christmas catalog about fifteen years back.

On topic, I would kill for a T5 TDI (and I'd probably have to, because I don't think I could afford one otherwise...) Very Happy

Whatever. Just so the wheel base is long enough to be camperized. Same with the Euro van vs the camper

Does this mean the T5 has been submitted to crash safety in the US?

No, it has manufacturers plates on it. Its a test mule, and will most likely be crushed when they are done with it.

Damn, I wish they were imported to the US and then maybe I would have a chance at getting one into Canada. There are plenty of average mileage RHD T5 PDIs in the UK going for 4 and 5K GBP, I can't see it being much different in mainland Europe with left hookers.

I was really suprised and disappointed when I looked into importing into Canada and founds they had to be 13 years or so old to be considered!

That is interesting too, though the one I am referring to was about 5 years ago, the pretty modern london taxi. The interesting thing to me is that that was a diesel, which also used the same VM engine as is in my Jeep Liberty diesels........someone got that imported, legally, somehow...............

15 years old, 25 years old for US.
