Congrats. I like the stance. Do you know what the drop is on the spindles? |
Thanks! He said it was a 2 inch drop spindle. It has 145's on the front, and 185's on the back.
Front wheels are 4.5, and the back wheels are 5.5. _________________ 1968 Type 1

Pics of 1977's?
Like this?
Then with 8 spokes and drop spindles
Then narrowed beam, dropped a spline out back and 5 lug conversion.
I'm also running a 944 steering wheel. Looks exactly the same as a 911, but the splines make it a direct bolt up
It's a little smaller and offset a touch so it gives more room between the wheel and seat
Future plans are euro blade bumpers, smaller front turn signals, earlier rear fenders with 62-67 taillights, eventually new (older style) heater boxes and rear apron too |

thanks guys......on a side note i always wonder why so many people change the look of the late models to make them look like 60's beetles......why not embrace the the "fat chick" look |

I dunno why but I just much prefer the look of the original one, with the old wheels and original height. |

I also like just plan old original cars, they are harder & harder to find. |

I've always wanted a "hot rod" bug from as far back as I can remember.
This car can still be put back to factory, for now.
The interior is just factory tan. The car only has 88K on it.
Stock seats, door panels and carpet.
The steering wheel is a brown 944 unit. |

I found both my `77's in pretty sad shape...one sitting in a field for years and the roof is rusty and pitted all over...and the other (sunroof car) was being used as a dog kennel I hope to find one worthy of undergoing a more subtle resto-custom one day, they make great drivers. |

I'm still workin on my '77 standard. Just scored some used doors from a '74 on Craigslist. It's a fun project; I especially like sourcing all of the replacement parts. The Samba has been a HUGE help as always. Bugs are cool. I can't imagine a day when parts aren't plentiful or a day when the hobby is dead. Although my dad is into Model A's, and all you see is old geezers with oxygen tanks. Yikes. _________________ **SUPPORT THE SAMBA**

i'm with you on that.....my brother is into all the over the top stuff and i'm just not feeling it.....i want the damn car to look original (maybe a color change)......now i'm all for giving it a lot more "go power" and making strides to have it be more sound by today's standards.....but when it comes to looks i don't want to cut, sand, change, improve, etc, etc anything |

I have a '77 standard... looking at those photos of the yellow and primer bug... it doesn't have the correct fenders or bumpers on it. The bumper bracket holes thru the fenders should be triangle shaped in the front, and diamond shaped in the rear, and the bumper much larger. That being said, I have early blade bumpers on my car with the stock fenders - was super easy to adapt to the older bumpers... someday I might put the correct bumpers back on, but for the price of the old style blades, and cleaner look, I had just decided to go with that even tho it is not stock looking...
good luck. _________________ 61 DD Panel |

The yellow car on the first page is a `72...and the flat black Beetles I've modified to use earlier style fenders and bumpers, by making my own bumper brackets...only the struts remain on the front of my Dad's `77.
