Hi samba folks!
I'm Boris, one of the BlackHands guys, from the sunny south of France, and this is my so sweeeet ride, 1970 8 passengers, before I started to work on her, one month ago...
it had a middle drop set up I did one year ago, but still to high for me...so here is the build up:
for the front, I built a 2" raised, 4.5" narrowed balljoint beam (with OG bearings!), and 2.5"BJ drop spindles.
For the rear, I was inspired by KCW and the guys from Slamwerks , so I did a bug gearbox conversion...1302 IRS gearbox, with splitbus nosecone, OG axles, and big new boxed chassis section to allow a full travel for axles and arms with Creative adjustable springplates
and this is the final result, this weekend at a local swapmeet (Thanks to Tom, Mika and Mayane for the great pics )
Hope you like her! _________________ 1970 Slammed rusty Kombi |

Looks great. Is the camber adjustable on the rear setup? _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

that's a real compliment from you, your (first ) green bus stuck me when you did it!!!
and no, camber is reduced thanks to the bug box design, and axles are horizontal... _________________ 1970 Slammed rusty Kombi |

Yes, all you need is to install Bug CVs' on the gearbox side, and ride low so the axles are horizontal and have the good lengh _________________ 1970 Slammed rusty Kombi |

how much higher can you go with the type 1 axles before they are too short? could you use type 2 axles if you wanted to sit a little higher? did you have to change the stub axle or is it still the type 2 bus axle? what if i narrowed the rear a little bit to make up for the difference in length? how come you have camber with a IRS set up? is it the spring plates you used?
sorry for all the questions. i have a type 2 irs setup on my bus but it didnt come with a trans. i have been looking for a way to get around dropping a large amount of money on a bus trans. and a bug irs trans is a lot cheaper than a bus one. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

Props to your fabrication skills but it looks like that camber is going to kill your rear tires in a hurry. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Nah, that camber's not bad at all. Looks about like a beetle at 1 spline. Tow kills tires wayy faster than camber. |

Forgot to add that I had to notch the front chassis too, for tie rods clearance because of the beam raise...
So we made some boxed "donuts", welded on the chassis for extra strenght
and found a temporary seat solution to roll the beast before tubes are done and OG seats modified...
