I ordered an Ezy Awning Plus, free standing kit, and jack point mounting kit today and was informed that they're sold out of everything until the end of June. Confused

Except for the jack point kit, which is apparently on indefinite back order? Shocked

I'm pretty set on the Ezy Awning Plus and would like to get it sooner than June/July because I want to have time to test it to see if I want to get a second one as a gift for my parents. for their birthdays in early July.

It is a Bus Depot design, I don't think anyone else has them unless they are a reseller for Bus Depot.

I have them both and I can answer a few questions on each model. The jack point kit looks to be a waste of money
even the BD pic of the large awning depicting this kit seem ridiculus, how could one walk around under the awning?
Maybe if the jack points wre under the tires themselves? That would work!

The free standing part, sorry I don't get either? Get one of the canopy kits from Kmart, they work well for
this. I think you'll be wasting money, if you buy these add ons.

Next thing is get the bigger awning like you want! The smaller one will work but BIGGER is better and you
won"t be dissappionted with the purchase!

Love them both but Bigger is Bigger and Better!

Who else sells it?

I do. We've used ours two or three times, and have now assembled sufficient funds for a Fiamma. Ours isn't the plus (whatever that gives you) but it's minty fresh and all yours for a very reasonable price. PM me for details.

Cheers,

Dan

The awning actually comes from Just Kampers in the UK. Maybe they could ship it to you direct. http://www.justkampers.com/ The one I bought years ago from BusDepot actually says Just Kampers on it.

I agree about the jack points. It makes it difficult to walk around the van without ducking around the supports.

As for free standing - Yes! All you need to do is add two tarp poles and it doubles as a free standing awning.

Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful replies!

Yeah, I definitely want to get the bigger one. It's not all that much more expensive, and having an awning that's the whole length of the van seems way more useful.

I just wanted the free-standing kit so I could use the awning in the back yard when I'm not camping or using the van. I do a lot of home-brewing beer in the back yard, and that means hanging out in the middle of the yard for like 5-6 hours.

Here in the SF bay area most of the time it's not a problem, but we don't have any trees in my yard and during the summer it can get pretty hot.

@TimWhy: Love your setup! The big awning and the lights look killer. Which screen are you using?

@ Dan: My heart is set on the big one, sorry. But I'll ask my folks if they'd be interested in the smaller one for their van.

@PDX Westy: I have the big daddy of your grill, the Weber Q320. Absolutely love it!

Hi Tim

I don't know when you bought the jack point kit. I purchased mine about a month ago with the intention of making it work with my Fiamma awning. Anyways, when I bought mine, BusDepot had a picture of how to use the (new?) kit to secure it under the tires, between the ground and the tire, kind of like rolling over the foot of the kit. I have not had a chance to look at it in detail and I cannot find BDs link to the kit and pics.

I am using the GW screen door, I added snaps to the bottom.

Hey Enrique,
No jack points for me. I just wouldn't get any use out of them.

Maybe this was the page you were thinking of?

Blue Bay Bus Have the small one on my 84, love that size all the shade I need. Have the jack mt. love it, for me works great. I have a free standing kit, if you lived closer I'd give it to you for a hamburger! I don't use it. The jack mt. is no different than a fiamma, same to walk around. Very Happy

I really like the look of the BD Ezy, but despite searching high and low I can't find anywhere in the UK that does anything similar. Justkampers definitely don't list anything currently, I contacted BD but although they could ship to the UK, the cost really didn't add up to me.
I'd really like to see an alternative that I could buy at fair money in the UK.

Just Kampers used to sell it. I remember seeing it on their website in the past. In fact, my awning has their logo on it. Did you try contacting them directly and asking?

I did just see that the skylight guy has the awning listed on his site. Not sure if this helps now or not. Scroll down the following page:

The other option you might consider is the legs with the ezy awning are easy to replace regular metal tent poles...that's also the heavy part of the shipping...if you want one of these shipped to you without the two legs...? We can dedeuct $20 which is what the two legs cost extra when buying the free standing kit.

My understanding is, Bus Depot buys these awnings direct from the manufacturer and is designed by Bus Depot. Our Ezy Awning is supplied to us by Bus Depot, and I believe we are the only other outlet in North America selling them.

I liked the concept of the Ezy, and tried to replicate a similar setup using a $30 Texsport awning from Sportsman's Warehouse.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I like the look, but to get proper hardware to mount it nicely to the rain gutter of the van I was looking at an investment approaching the Ezy. I could deal with just price, but the fact that that shape of awning makes a much better sail then an awning where the whole thing including guy lines would be down at the first gust makes it not worth it to me. I can't imagine the Ezy could perform much better in some wind, but I could certainly be wrong.
For a free standing solution, I love my EZ-UP awning with weights on the legs. Too bulky for most camping though.
I'm on to Plan B, found a 15 ft triangular Natural Gear Tri-Shade on clearance that passed the backyard/freestanding test with flying colors, I'm going to try to figure out a clever way to match up the seam above the van's slider this weekend, so we'll see.

I am sorry for the temporary unavailability of the Ezy Awning. We were in the process of updating to a new generation and the shipment was delayed. It has finally cleared Customs and we will have the new version this week. I am glad that Skylight Guy was able to supply some in the meantime to those who couldn't wait. Incidentally I don't believe Just Kampers has them anymore, or if so it would not be the same as ours anyway. Years ago we co-bought the first generation with Just Kampers, but since then our development of the product has diverged from theirs and by now there are quite a number of differences compared to the first version.

As for the new ones that are just coming in, there are two major improvements. First, it is now available a second color option (beige/brown). Secondly, you can now add optional walls to create a screen room or enclosed shelter. (The walls can be retrofit to older models as well for those of you who already have one).

Also on the same shipment is our new $69 rear hatch shelter (I'm really excited about this one), plus a new 2nd generation Add-A-Room, which now uses domed fiberglass poles like the Ezy Awning to raise the walls into awnings.

Details at http://www.busdepot.com/details/awning/
