I need info on the routing of the Coolant Hoses to/from the Radiator ('84 Gasser). I don't want to screw-up my TDI engine!
I've done several searches here and Google with no luck.
I have two manuals and they are somewhat confusing. Although the schematics are the same in both manuals, one of them has directional arrows added by the previous owner (of manual and Van) that seem to be contradictory to what's on the other pages of the manual. Also, the schematics are somewhat confusing too!
Does anyone have a link to the "routing" of the hoses? _________________ '84 Vanagon Tin-top, ALH TDI, two trips to Alaska, 2014 & 16. 1989 Tin-top unmolested.

What hose routing are you questioning? If you are specifically asking about which hose goes to the bottom and which to the channel that runs to the top of the radiator, then I can say with full certainty that the coolant is pumped into the bottom and pulled from the top of the radiator. This is opposite to most vehicle and also opposite thermosiphon. |

Andrew, that was exactly my concern. Observing the rad design as well as the Bentley Manual schematics/Photos it just didn't look right.........then, consider someone had marked-up the drawing in my Bentley Manual contrary to the direction of flow.
Problem solved! Thanks! _________________ '84 Vanagon Tin-top, ALH TDI, two trips to Alaska, 2014 & 16. 1989 Tin-top unmolested.
