So its been 2-1/2 months. You guys riding yet? |
Yep, first ride last night with the PVC on! Tons of fun, and you can't really get up enough speed to get hurt bad since sliding scrubs off speed. I doubt we were even up to 15 mph.

You're not going to use PVC sleeved rear wheels? They slide 100x better than the style you have. I have a trike with PVC, and a stretched Razor Scream Machine with plastic wheels, and it's much harder to drift the Razor. _________________ Strive for perfection in everything. Just read through the whole topic again. The PVC holds up quite well; I've got around 6-8 hours on mine with very little wear. Also, I went in with three other friends and bought a 20' stick of 10" PVC since that fits our wheels better. You can reduce the width of the PVC sleeve for added grip; my first 8" diameter, 10" wide sleeves didn't grip enough to turn while sliding- it just wanted to go straight. We paid $140 for the 10" pipe, not bad since we split it four ways and I was able to sell half of mine later.
I started an Upstate SC Drift Trike Group on facebook if anyone in the area is interested in meeting up and riding. There's another group of guy (WNC Drift Trikes) that we meet up with occasionally.

I had initially planned on using good steel wheels with high speed bearings from drscope and PVC sleeves, but I came across these wheels in a junk yard and figured I would at least try them out before purchasing the wheels, bearings, and PVC. Your trike looks great. Going to give mine a couple runs this week and see what I want to improve, and I'll update the thread with what I decide

What fun is that?
Glad to see some of you guys are actually starting to have fun with these things.
When you get tired of going slow, get back to me and I'll help you get started in Underground Soap Box racing! Thats real fun and excitement! _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

When we get tired of going slow, we'll just take the PVC off. And wear shoes.

Got a couple runs in on the local hills, now I'm planning a trip about 30 minutes up the 405 with some buddies. Saw what looked like some pretty steep switchbacks the other day. I'll try to take some vids

Riding season is here again. Any new riders out there?
My trike was stolen a couple months ago so I built a new one with a few upgrades. This one has a disc brake and I just ordered racing kart hubs. Also built a mount to haul it on the roof rack, the looks I get are priceless.
The new one is basicly the same frame style as my old trike. The old tractor seat was pretty comfortable so I found another and added 2" foam padding. A buddy runs a vinyl shop and printed out the General Lee decals for it, and I ordered the flag off ebay. Just gotta jump it now!
We also tried a drift wagon... Wagon steering can't keep up with the back end sliding around.

The East Coast Challenge started out in 2009 as a race for gravity powered cars. This is run on 6 different hills in central PA.
This year we have also opened it up to the Trikes.
We have a large number of Trike riders showing this year for the event. (many of them are at Pikes Peak this weekend for a Drift Trike event)
So any of you who would like to make the trip, get signed up!
We are running 3 classes of cars ( Spec, Unlimited, and Super) as well as the Trikes.
We have some of the fastest gravity cars in the world showing up this year for a Super Car show down. We have drivers coming from as far away as South Africa, California, Wisconsin, Georgia.
It appears to be getting bigger by the minute!
