Will a Peka/original towbar (rear towing hitch) fit inside a flatscreen beetle ? Think i have found one and hoping to collect it and bring it home to fit at my leisure rather than trying to bolt it on at roadside in rain

That is a towing hitch. Remove passenger front seat and you should have enough room.
