The jerk that had my car before me removed the airbox that mates with the air inlet on top of the trunk lid. The airbox is inside the trunk and has a drain hose for when water gets in the inlet.

This is not a part that the suppliers sell since there is no demand for them. Does anyone have one or a parts car that has one you would sell me? My car is a 1970 Beetle Bug Convertible. Maybe you you have seen one for sale or know if a new one is available from a supplier. I would appreciate a lead on this one.

Thanks,
Jim in NC

This doesn't specify a year, but try BugCity: Item #: 111819543.....

My 71 Super also came to me with the fresh air box cut out and laying up in the trunk.

If so, I'll keep an eye out for one. My husband is going to try to take off early from work today and take me to some salvage yards.

Yes Kim, That's it. Bug City showed one so I ordered it. At only $6.00 it may not be the right one like you show. They did not have a picture of it. Thanks for writing!

I found one at the salvage yard just exactly like the one in my picture. The car was a 1970 standard exactly (same color and everything) as mine.

If the one you ordered doesn't work, let me know and I'll get my husband to run out and get it for you.

Now you have to listen to my story!!

We went to the salvage yard there were all these men there. We walked in (me, my boys and my husband) and no one said a word. They just stared at us. Finally, this old guy says "Can I help you?" I said "We want to look at your Beetles. He said "All right, but we close in just a few minutes." So we went rushing out there and literally, there were half a dozen bugs there...and it was surrounded by a SWAMP! Hubby and I look around and we find this huge hood...like to a big truck or something! We managed to pick that thing up and make a bridge out to the Beetles!

I found the air box you wanted, but didn't get it. I did get a new dome light...mine was shot.

As we left, I swear, all those men were still just standing there staring at us! Like we'd stumbled on their still or something! Ha ha! It was weird.

Told hubby "If that guy needs that air box, you're coming back to get it...I'm not coming out here alone!"

He said "No, you're not."

Heh!!

Kim
PS: My youngest also lost his first tooth in the car on the way up there! It just popped out! Startled him pretty badly 'cause it really bled, so I had calm him down! Wild day!

For future reference, these guys are pretty helpful on the phone. I ordered a 71 SB brake warning light from them - same thing, no picture. I called to confirm and they were great.

From bug city's description I'm guessing you ordered the drain hose for the air box. Let us know what you get. The guys at Bug City are good... I see them at every show I go to around here... they know their parts.

Their shop is somewhat different. They deal mostly in mail orders, so they operate out of a house. The yard is lined with nicely fixed-up Beetles. When I called them to try and make an exchange they said, "just drive down the road, you'll know which one is ours." The town won't let them hang a sign out front since they are zoned residential.

you were right, it was just the hose although it leads people to believe it is the box and hose since there is a comma after air box and before hose. The hose looked more like an air duct, did not look water proof. I'll use a rubber hose if I find an airbox.

pandanom, I misread your original post to mean you had the airbox, just needed the hose. Sorry. It must have been late or something. Anyway, have you tried BFY?

I got it for ya! Send me a PM with your address and I'll get it in the mail tomorrow sometime.

Kim

PS: Oh, and don't worry about paying me for it. If it's what you need and you use it, make a donation to The Samba for what it was worth to you. If you can't use it, feel free to try to sell it and donate that to The Samba!

Ok, Jim! Here's the deal...

A while back, being a chatty kinda person, I got to talking to the postmaster at the post office down the street from me. Come to find out, his boys (three of them) were all serving in Iraq. So I got their addresses and sent them some care packages!

So today, I came into the post office carrying the air box. I told him "I have no idea how I am going to ship this!" He just took it from me, boxed it up with plastic peanuts, tape and label and everything! No charge! All I had to pay was shipping!

So, your air box is on it's way! I didn't send it any special way, so it may take a while to get there. Let me know when you get it.

Kim

PS: If you're just dying to know...the whole thing, air box and shipping combined, cost me $11.93! Hehe! I may not be the greatest mechanic, but I sure can shop!

Can you find me a rear seat for that Wink

Seriously, it's people like you that make owning VWs fun. It's refreshing to see such generosity.

God Bless.

Thanks Kim,
I really appreciate it. You got an incredible deal! Thank also for the photos, it looks good. Do you think I should order a new seal or did the seal look OK?
I will let you know when it arrives. No hurry.
