Hey there helpful samba members. First post here but have been cruising the site for years learning a ton. Never needed to actually post and ask a question until now. Always found it with the search button. Well anyway. I have a 71 sunroof deluxe bay with totally worn out alabaster seats. I've searched high and low (doesn't mean I didn't miss it somewhere) and haven't seemed to be able to find the answer to which reproduction color from tmi or Wolfsburg west best matches the original alabaster interior. Or better yet someone who makes quality replacement covers in the original color and pattern. If anyone could answer this or send me in the right direction to a thread with the answer I'm looking for Id be most appreciative. Thanks in advance! |

Thanx for your reply. I actually downloaded sewfines catalouge on my phone a week or 2 ago looking for it and I can't seem to find any listing for basket weave alabaster covers. Maybe I'm just over looking them though. I might just end up emailing sewfines, tmi, and WW and see if they could give me some more info. Maybe ill have them all send me out samples but its hard to comoare frwsh new material to 45 yearold worn faded and yelliwed material. Lol I'd like to get somthing as close to original as possible. Not that the bus is 100% original by any means but certain thinngs I prefer orignall like the exterior and interior colors. Just trying get a plan of attack because I can't stand driving around with a pillow under me much longer. Lol thanx again for your reply and if anyone else could be of help it would be greatly appreciated. |

TMI's Off White #05 matched the color of the Alabaster seats in my '78. Off White is only available in Basket Weave. Unfortunate for me since the late bays came with Square Weave. Oddly when I just looked at TMI's website they don't list #05 Off White for your '71. You might try calling them. I drove on springs for ten years while searching for Off White or Alabaster Square Weave before giving up and using the Basket Weave this year

And now that I look at the picture I posted maybe it doesn't match as well as I thought. Look better in person I guess. _________________ 1978 Transporter 2.0 FI, BA6

I was leaning more towards the off white so thanx for that bit of info. I'm going to email tmi and WW see what they say. I know I won't get anything 100% Perfect match but I'd really like somthing close. Thanx again for the help guys. |

Thanx sg Kent. The off white basket weave were the exact ones I was looking at but wasn't sure how close they would be to the original alabaster. But going off the later bay seat jimmieh posted a pic of it seems pretty close. Just didn't want to order then and be disappointed since my original door panels are pretty grey when cleaned up and I started second guessing thinking I should get the grey basketweave. I think I'm just going to go with off white basketweave and call it a day. I've liked it in several buses and bugs I've seen it in so I should have happy regardless if it's a perfect match or not. Thanx again guys! This site is a life saver! |

Hey guys, just following this thread. I can send swatches out of our off white for comparison. Pictures will play trick on monitors.
We have all the squareweave that is currently available from our supplier, but if the color is close, I can try and have a run made in squareweave. _________________ Mario De Leon

Thanx for following tmi! It will probably be a month or so before I'm ready to order the interior stuff. But getting swatches would definitely help me decide! Thanx again. Best site ever. _________________ Click to view image |
