I give the musical score a C+. Needs some work.
Looks like you had a Windshield rock guard?

There’s unlikely to be a great deal of action with the Kombi for a while, as she settles in for a period of storage, but there was a run up a local mountain, where it was reported that the engine is running well and pulling strongly!
I had been going to order a birth certificate from VW, as we did with the orange Kombi, but I’ve realised that the Australian bay windows were assembled in a factory in Clayton, Victoria from CKD kits until March 1977, so VW will have no records! That’s why the paint is a unique Aussie only colour.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering about the windshield wipers and if the bus was CKD. Very indicative of using German parts for your purpose. Makes those wipers all the more unique. _________________

Not sure if there’s a specific answer to this but, Olive has a GD engine number on the fan shroud which has been cancelled out with ‘zzz’s’ and a VW symbol before it. There is another number, beginning with ‘W’ that is stamped on the fan shroud, further right.
My assumption is that the engine might have been remanufactured by VW and the W number is the new engine ID. Is that likely to be correct?
Also, the chassis number with asterisks is the correct one, but there is a similar number stamped on a plate to the left. Any ideas?
And as for the very rough stamped number on the floor of the engine bay...

They will issue you a birth certificate, I got one for my 1976 Australian CKD Microbus, it describes the basics from the manufacture in Hannover, and the destination being Australia, specifically states it is “CKD”, M-codes marry up to the bus interior etc., one M-code marked as unknown (I’m guessing it is the Australia only front nose for compliance to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), e.g. transposed windscreen wiper set-up), I don’t know if they mated a body to a specific engine number as part of a ‘kit’ for assembly, as my Type 4 engine was a replacement already installed when I bought the bus. I doubt when the complete knock down kits arrived at Clayton from Germany they were that fussy. (They did issue the separate standard letter with the certificate, confirming my engine was not the original 2.0L, but I knew that already).
The weird thing on my birth certificate is that VW in Germany had designated the vehicle to be painted L31A Senegal Red. The bus is original VW of Australia / Dulux of Australia CLR 722 Riverina Orange. Not a speck of red to be seen anywhere, it was obviously painted orange upon assembly in Australia, but I doubt they painted it Senegal red in Germany, I would think it left Hannover in a protective primer for it’s trip around the world. People on the Kombiclub forums describe similar anomalies with their birth certificates. Strange, but not surprising really!
(When VW assembly ceased at Clayton, the plant started assembling CKD Datsun cars. The first Datsun’s to roll off the line were available in the VW Dulux colours. So sometimes when you search for paint codes, they come up as Datsun/Nissan! Anorak piece of information for you there). _________________ 1965 Type 1 Deluxe (1200cc)
