91Transporter16:

I have two of those "transporter" truck tags that I got from Pawel Jung, who goes by YOGIVW on The Samba. Send him a pmail and ask if he has any used badges left. IIRC he charged me $40 for the badge.

Let us know what ClassicVW parts say about this item. I'm still waiting on my body panels from them.

I think I have one of those badges in the bottom of a parts box somewhere, I'll have a look next week. I think it's missing one or two of the mounting tabs but if you still want it you can have it for the price of shipping Smile

Not a problem ThorAlex. You're just across the pond. This is better than no badge. I'll paypal you if this works for you.

91Transporter16, yes I did figure out that site and it is awesome. It is so helpful to have that part number information when looking for Doka parts. Thanks again.

I would think that it would work on a mac. You have to get a pc just for this web site alone. It has just about everything p/n you need for your DoKa and most other cars VW/Audi. It's very helpful when looking for p/n's.
We have a 1977 Audi fox that needed a tie rod and we looked under vw passat which is basically the same car just a name change for Europe and elsewhere but the US, and we found the p/n. Very Happy

PostPosted: Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:33 am    Post subject: Latch handles Reply with quote

Anyone have any success with removing the gate latch handles for some powder coating?

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Are these replaceable or are they one with the whole latch? Of course VW did not list them as a separate unit from the latch.

What are my options out there for removing, replacing or reconditioning?

Thanks.

Yes you can remove them without destroying them.
I will post pictures of the handles without the plastic insert so you can see where you need to drill a hole to remove the lock tab that holds them in place.
After the hole is drilled through only one side of the plastic handle, you need to smash the tip with a hammer and flatted the end a bit before you begin to hit the handle from the rear to push it out.
It feels like you are wrecking the handle but they don't break. The plastic is hard and will not break easily.
I did this to all of my handles and it woks.
1.875" from the end and a 7/32" drill bit.
