Sunroof section done as far as I'm concerned had to modify it a bit to get it to look like I wanted, the width was too wide and I could not get it to look right had to sew in new seams at a smaller width, not perfect but then again nor am I or the car I'm working on. Not going for a concourse restoration or any knd of restoration for that matter just tryin to build a nice looking oval.
Will start sunroof canvas install soon. |

Thank you, the difference in appearance is due to me not trying to earn a living! |

Very nice good job. I have to do one in my 57 rag soon. In black, which one is that? Have a link or part number?
More pics also I would like to see the rest of it and how the rag top looks.
Thanks |
Thank you, it was a complete PITA to do, personally if I had it to do over again I would have opted for the originl style, the reason for going with this one was because my sunroof was grafted in and I was'nt sure if the original style would work. Not completely sure this roof is in it's correct location nor am I sure it's not.
The headliner I used was purchased from TMI thru an authorized dealer the only way you can get it.
I have yet to do the sunroof area as I am rebuilding the framework and polishing out the guides. I hope to start assembling this weekend.
A link to TMI. http://vwupholstery.com/docs/bug/head.pdf I think I ordered a 22-1109-54 I cant find my reciept to see what part # I ordered was. The first 2 sets of numbers are the part the last 2 digits are the color and fabric type in which you would need.
On a side not, dont believe the "it's a snap to install" it's not and I did not ordere any bows, says you need 4 but I only needed one. Additionally the sunroof opening is not cutout you have to make the decision as to where the opening needs to be made. TMI isn't much help either on the install, last response I got from them is they are working on some install instructions.
I will post additional pictures of the rag section once it is completed.
Sorry for the late reply.

What kind of padding are you using on the posts? |
I used a couple of layers of modern car headliner material, seems to have worked pretty good, 1 layer under the 1/4's and around the rear window. |

Installing 1 piece style headliner in a 56 sliding rag. A real PITA but almost done. 1 piece headliner from TMI beige velour not sure why there is a yellow tint on some of the pics. Even though it looks like it has wrinkles in it, it does not, just the way the fabric is when you touch it. Will post more pics when completed and windows installed

Has anyone installed a universal 1 piece style headliner in a sliding rag oval? I chose this style because the roof was grated in not original and wasnt sure if the multi piece would fit correctly.
If so can anyone post some pictures for reference, I can find no reference photo's anywhere and there are absolutely no instructions to be found online I've done headliners b4 but I've got a few questions about somethings with this one.
Thanks John |
