I love how well that pattern matches both the ceiling and the cabinet panels! What kind of fabric is it? Look nice and thick enough to block heavy sunlight but not canvas-like.

Thanks. Glad you are enjoying the thread!
I asked the expert (Shona) and the material is a retro style but new. She thinks it is a poly cotton twill upholstery fabric. It’s quite lightweight and flexible but excludes light well enough. She also says it is a nightmare to sew as it is quite ‘loose’!
As you say. The colour match is pretty good. _________________ 1978 marino yellow Bay Dormobile camper

Thanks both.
I was going to enter Olive in the ‘Show and Shine’ today, but we had two separate sets of visitors coming to the show to see us, we took a walk up a nearby hill with fantastic views (including the show ground in the distance!) and I thought it was less stress to leave Olive at our camp spot and try out the period awning there and actually quite a few folk did stop and chat and admire her. Anyway, a very relaxed day all round and I will put her in the concours tomorrow (which I’m also pretty relaxed about). The forecast is for rain tomorrow, so we’ll see what the day brings. A few glamour shots of the interior and of some of the cars on show today.

I seem to have lost a post I did yesterday, updating the various things that are getting ticked off the list on Olive before the fairly big VW show this weekend. I plan to show Olive as a kind of mostly original ‘survivor’ bus.
The main nuisances yesterday were replacing the brass bellows thermostat under the engine. I got it all connected up and then realised the cable had missed the pulley between the thermostat and the flaps and I had already cut the cable. Much fiddling and swearing followed but I eventually got it sorted.
Also changed the oil and adjusted the valve gaps and panicked a bit when the engine wouldn’t keep running afterwards… I had forgotten to reconnect a breather hose when I was adjusting the thermostat, so no harm done!
Today some big steps:
The rear bumper is now fitted, with its fresh powdercoat. It is level, despite what the picture suggests!
Also fitted the rear sliding window and fly screen and the front kick panel replacements.
But, best of all, we collected the retrimmed front seats today and got them fitted in. The passenger seat needs the cooker cupboard loosened, so is a bit of a fiddle. I’m really happy with the basketweave material and the plain finish with no seams is correct for an originally commercial vehicle.
You can see the buddy seat is trimmed the same.

I had time for a bit more work on Olive today. The sliding door was juggled into place, although the nylon block needed a bit of shaving to clear the runners properly. Now slides and closes like a dream!!
The roo bars are a bit of a pain to fit as there are about eight attachment points and it is a struggle to line them all up but we got them on and the new powder coat grey is looking good!
Sadly, the original linoleum flooring is quite stained and no amount of cleaners/abrasives or solvent (including acetone) is able to shift it. I will keep the flooring, but I might cut a piece of lino to go over the top which could be removed to show the floor. The front cab mat now has a protective mat over the top for day to day use.
