Can anyone settle a discussion we are having?
Did all panel vans come with the upper vents, or could that be purchased as an option?
I have heard that if the panel was a walk through the upper vents were not there.

thanks

This question comes up a lot. Generally speaking:

Walk-thru: No upper cargo vents.

Bench seat: Upper cargo vents, unless it has M116 - Without vented cargo area

yea, see NAES's bus is a regular walkthru without vents. thats normal. what i want to see are busses like the one that bikesnbusses posted.

a NON-walkthru (aka bench seat) WITHOUT upper vents. (M116).

btw, i have seen many campers other than westy that are regular walkthrus without vents as normal, and non-walkthrus with vents as normal. so i dont think the M116 option would be specific to campers. not sure though. anyone got more pics?

What about walkthroughs with the vents? My buddy Jake had a 58 w/t with the vents and factory safaris.

Thanks
I am looking at buying a 5 window Riviera.
I thought it to be rather rare as it doesn't have the long rear window or pop-top.

Thoughts?

Check out this thread, it has all the info on riviera campers, and explains the upper rear vent situation in detail.

This was just a Panel and if it was a hack, it was a damn good one. It had the correct '58 walkthru bulkhead. He has since sold the Bus, I can see if he still has some pictures of it. It was a rusty pile though.

very nice work cdennisg. so lind does confirm that M116 is an uncommon option, and that he has only seen it on Rivieras. but he does also say that he wouldnt be surprised if it was on another non-riviera bus. (which the green and white bus pictured above appears to be, a non-riviera.)

yea vwadam, see if you can find some pics. thats deifinitely an uncommon option. if anyone knows the mcode, please tell us.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for. But my Travel Equipment Sportmobile camper has no vents, benchseat, and 116 on M plate.

i guess i need to correct myself. upon looking at the link 2 posts above, i see that this riviera also has 3 windows on the driver side. i thought that all rivieras had one long window on the driver side. but now i think im wrong. apparently they did have 3 windows at one point? so i guess it really is a riviera. im not a riviera specialist, so i dont know for sure. but now the bus directly above is a sportsmobile. so clearly campers other than rivieras had the 116 option.

as for value if that bus for sale, after reading the whole ad and seeign the overall conditon of the bus and everything that it has, i would say that it is a very nice bus and looks solid. the rust, from what i can see, doesnt look bad. pricewise, my opinion is that its over priced by 2 grand, maybe a little more. see what everyone else says.

I love it when I'm reading a thread thinking I need to post a pic of my bus and voila, there it is! Very Happy Thanks Levonbenelli!

Yes, mine is a Riviera with option 116, as is cdennisg's bus, which in my mind is worth every penny of the asking price. How many nice, low mile Rivs are out there? I would say not many.

sweet. thanks for clarifying that. not to change the topic of the thread, but whats the difference with rivieras that have the long window vs. the 3 windows? is it a year difference or something?

Yes, year difference. I strongly suggest you read the thread offered up on the previous page about Rivieras.
