I'm thinking brown on brown, but could be pg/sg which would be cool too. But it's probably just some ol' dayglo dark pink over geen like you see every day on buses. Oh well. To each his own. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

Sorry man, I've been busy!
We all realize that I have to be careful with the pics posted, so nobody tries to copy the paint scheme, so these are mostly shots of the parts and details.
I Zinc plated all the bolts in a dull zinc finish.
Got the beam and all the bits back from Powder-coating (thanks again, Jim)
I was quite concerned with how these holes would line up, as I built the chassis and the beam and two separate times, and they were not in the same place to trial fit them. Luckily it's as good as it gets.
Modified type one spindles to accept the bus linkpins
I've installed the wiring harness.
Also installed is the Transaxle, with the world famous Concept-1 nose cone adapter.
Pimped it up a bit this time, with a brass plated horseshoe to bolt it all in.
And the holes on the trans carrier slotted to make up for the 1/4" the trans get moved back.
Also worked a bit on the engine.
Added a Velocity ring to the back of the seamed 25hp shroud.
Finally got all my chrome plating back this week as well, and assembled the headlights.
Some of the best chrome plating I've ever had done, thanks to The house of silver in Winnipeg.

Your attention to detail is superb ken, that's going to be one sweet bus when you're done!
I'm loving the engine build, that's going to look superb. Are you going to run the barrels you had machined, or another set with more fins on them?
I'm really interested to see how you get on with the bug spindle set up too _________________

Every spring the Triumph Drivers Club of Manitoba organizes a garage tour for all the Brit car guys. This year we went to House of Silver and had a tour of his operation. We had to split into 2 groups as he could not fit all 42 of us. He has been in the same place since the '70s and it really shows! Really cool to see a plating operation. Inspite of how nasty everything in the shop looked his product quality is top drawer.

Thanks Alan. Yes, I'm running the turned down barrels. I'm sure it will be fine, especially since I've broken in the engine, and it didn't even come close to getting hot. I'm using the later 28 blade fan, the alum oil cooler, as well as the velocity ring. I'm also planning on using the stale air heater, as we have lots of cooler evenings here, even in the summer. Trevor and I were freezing to death through montana when we took my old 23 window to California in June '08, even with heat hooked up.

Wiring works. They previously did not have a '52-'53 loom. We sent them Trevor's, or what was left of it anyways, with lots of notes, including the extra length needed for a bus vs. a truck. He has had the '54-'55 one for quite some time, and they are really nice.

Thanks Johnny. Lots of details yet to come on that bad boy. Don't let the pics below fool you, it's not nearly done yet...
Well....now that airmighty #8 is out, and the color scheme has been revealed in print... Time for some pics!
I couldn't bare the thought of painting the old girl anything but the original brown and beige. It's just way to cool. Believe it or not I'm having second thoughts about running the white and peach colored wheels, but only time will tell.
Wiring is almost 100%
Started on the headliner, with help from Burt, thankfully.
Speaking of Burt, he was also giving me a hand with the upper door tops. Thanks man.
This is the general look of my workspace the last few weeks. Disaster.
Front and rear 356 brakes, coming along.
I just liked the look of this pic.
My old friend Johnny was in town for the weekend, rebuilt me a 25hp fuel pump, and gave me a hand getting the engine together enough to do the break in.
....And she runs! Sounded really good.
It was raining earlier in the day, and was only about 10 degrees C outside...A little ice forming on the intake manifold during the 20 min run in.
And I'm back to building. _________________ C-1 |
