i was just curious.. i don't know if it has been discussed before.
is the #6 having legal papers? registration number etc? where i live if a car has no papers it cannot drive on the public roads and nothing can be done about it. seeing that the #6 has its original number plates, should i think it has no registration papers and will not have, but will only be transported on a trailer, and driven only to restricted areas at shows?

The letter "V" means that the car was authorized to fill up at a gas-station.
Test driving continued during the war.

Is there a pic of the tax stamp close enough to show what it should say?
Where would it have been taxed? Stuttgart?

one question. III3A is the numberplate for berlin. or it was. waldbroehl, were ley lived, could have been IZ, as for cologne? why did the car have a berlin numberplate, if i may ask? because the head of the kdf aka. daf was in berlin? ley was situated in waldbroehl.

mfg,

blAcky

III A was the numberplate for Stuttgart. Porsche was (and still is) situated in Stuttgart, so the VW38 cars had all the IIIA numberplate first.

IA would be Berlin. Here is an overview of numberplates in 3.Reich:

i´m sorry, of course you´re right. 3a was stuttgart.
but why was this number issued when ley was in waldbroehl?
maybe all the cars were still property of porsche?

The contemporary pictures that we know today were all made as car no.6 was used for propaganda purposes and for documentation for the book "Dein KDF-Wagen". At that time it had the IIIA plate. Then later it was handed over to Ley. But I guess Ley didn't drove it himself, because for a leader of the DAF such a small car wasn't "suitable" . The Nazi VIPs were more into Mercedes and Horch than in Volkswagen...

Er... they kinda mounted it a little tall this time, will it be an off-road? Wink

But seriously, I was wondering the same thing as eurodub, how do you guys plan to do the papers of this car, if you do not mind me asking? How it works in Germany? Here in Brazil, for instance, once a car is "scrapped" it could never be registered again, like a death certificate - no kidding - they cal it "Baixa no Detran" (a DMV analog).

And, BTW, nice coat, number 6! It really honours it's "concept car/showcar" birth, congratulations!

Major congrats to Christian and the entire team. This is a big accomplishment marrying the body to the pan. Whenever I drop a body on, it's this major milestone in a restoration so I know you guys are feeling great today.

Congrats again, I hope to see this car in person someday for sure.... Cool

I just noticed the "rauchen verboten" sign, If memory serves thats "no smoking" which I think is a little ironic, and I suppose mostly appropriate given the nature of 006's new paint!
