Nice. I keep saying I'm not going to lower mine but that stance is great. _________________ Bill

L87 pearl white, courtesy of Earl Scheib
(was probably my first mistake-original color was also Pearl White, but not too restorable thanks to a PO. correct action would have been to plasti dip the whole thing Pearl White.)
next mistake was not rebuilding the 1300 engine that came with it, even if it wasn't numbers matching.
some bad mechanics, an auto fire, and everything later and it's sitting in my driveway.
But here are some pictures before the auto fire. PM me for details on who to avoid to repair your ac vw in Indiana.

This is my 66 I picked up last month. Ruby red with 1 past respray in too dark of a red. Eventually plan to strip the respray back to OG paint. Still has the original engine too. VIN is 116590348. It has round button handles so I guess that means it's an early 66? _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. | The VIN indicates that it would have been built in Feb. 1966. |

Round buttons make a late '66. Hard to research but they may have came to USA as early as March/April but then later in Europe after May.
They interchange so maybe yours were replaced at one point with the later, superseded versions. Does one key match doors and ignition? _________________ -Bruce

Hi, Bruce. In the Karmann-Ghia world, "low-lights" are thought to be vastly superior to their more mundane 1960 & up brethren.
So which are better here in the land of 1966 Beetles---square button cars or round button?
I certainly hope that my square-button '66 Beetle(vin 116083760) will make up for the humiliation I suffer from owning a high-light '61 Ghia. |

Which are better, square or round?
You should know the answer to that, it's whichever one you own!😁😁😁
Hey IDK, if you have a pair of Nirosta square button door handles with working/matching key's, you probably have the best as far as reliability and functionality.
As far as aesthetics, all round buttons feature the Nirosta SS wrap, "look" like 67's, so perhaps considering newer being better capture some charm as a Progressive Refinement
You got a Ghia too? No shame here, I'd be glad to have either one _________________ -Bruce

Here's my '66 (restoration in progress).
Yes, I know that the hubcaps aren't correct, but I really like the older style caps.
Bought the car when I was 16. Sold it when I was 37. Then at 48, I saw it on Kijiji and bought it back. Crazy, eh?

Long time Lurker. Now I have something to post.
1966 Canadian Beetle. VIN and engine number would make it a March 1966 build. Just sent away for birth certificate.

Not only do I love your chosen username, but that Pigalle interior is in FANTASTIC shape. Those seats! Looks like you could clean the mats, and even dye parking brake boot to match.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks
The back seat and headliner are in just as good as shape as the front seats. The engine does start. It has it's bad. It has fiberglass repairs to drivers side pan and front wheel house. Two holes were drilled into the dash to the right of where the flasher button should be for some reason.

Extra dash holes ....yeah, people do the dumbest things. Thos could be patched temporarily with rubber plugs from Princess Auto. I see it still has the gas heater control knob (the one with the green center) ....does it still have a gas heater ....under the hood, or over the tranny? _________________ "If you can't fix it with pop rivets, crazy glue and duct tape, or hold it together with zip ties, velcro or magnets, it REALLY is broken." |
