So far, Teams from Ohio and Missouri have done the trip, there may be more.
Don't paint it, don't lower it. Do Shasta first!
Two Weeks, 21 hours |
Going to HAVE to paint it. Not much left of the original paint and I have a LOT of panels to repair/replace. No plans on lowering it, I love ground clearance. Already got two different transaxles for it, just waiting for warmer weather to get back to work on it. If you're curious about the project, search "Daryl Licht" and you'll find the thread. _________________ 1969 VW Westfalia ~ Sandy ~ 1600cc single carb, dual port

Yep, made the haul from SW MO in 2008. Hoping to do it again one of these years. Unfortunetly it's not in the cards this year. _________________ 60 S0-23 Westy |

I'm aiming for two years from now (2016 SST). If possible it would be cool to get a few people together along the way and convoy. Ever since I found this thread my goal has been SST _________________ 1969 VW Westfalia ~ Sandy ~ 1600cc single carb, dual port

Glad to see the buses lining up. What I'm hopeful for, is actually either very little to no snow before the trip, or so much that it makes actually surviving the trip -let alone just making it through- nearly impossible. No snow means drivers will get the long-wished-for opportunity to run previously impassable high altitude roads, and of course, maximum dumpage, would brutally test the best of the best and expose the non-hackers. |

Eeeeej and BlackCatFace, you are correct that I'm getting an early start on prep this year. The hard part is remembering what it was I was supposed to fix. The bus made it to work today, so that's a start. I think the exhaust sounds a bit loud, I'm guessing repairing the damage from backing over the jump ramp on Gum Boot road might be required.
Hopefully someone is saving my spot left of the stage for me so I can work on whatever I need to again this year LOL.
You California guys need to get your shit together and start figuring out how to make it snow out there. Another couple of dust trips and I might start heading to some other state to drive in snow. I set up my weather app to show me weather for Covelo and got excited when I got an alert. Unfortunately the alert was for hot, dry conditions and possible fires. Not the precipitation I was hoping for. _________________ Richard

You're preaching to the Choir- I'm dying for rain too! We've gotten 20% of normal for the year and it's mid January. Looks like the late 70's all over again... _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Howdy Shasta folks.
The time is coming fast apon us for a great adventure called SST. Tune your CB dust off your flip flops stock that ice chest. The Pamper is getting some much needed love today. New oil, valve adjust maybe a mid tranny mount and some air cleaner work. _________________

Some mad route planner best look at the possibility then of making it from the road network north of 299 on the east side of Trinity Lake (Eastside Road) making it up to traverse on Ramshorn, and then what looks like W. A Barr Road, and comes out up by Gumboot Lake....
Yeah.....certain death.
