|
|
The othe day a friend of mine came over wile I was polishing the vent trim for my 56 23 window and asked me how many of these busses were still around...
I was suprized when I checked the production figures and realized how limited the production was in the years 55 throug 58
I got to thinking about it and realized how few I knew of ...
anyone care to make some wild guiestamates ?

just a guess, but I would say somewhere between 200 and 500. I think that I have easily seen 100 different ones in person or pictures.
compare it to the ratio '55-'58 deluxes to barndoor deluxes. I think that there are over 100 known barndoor deluxes. how many '55-'58s do you see for every barndoor that you see. _________________ .

Thoes numbers fit with what I was thinking myself. I can think of about 15 of them that have come out of the woods in Washington in the 14 years I have lived here and of thoes most were sold out of the airea as the finder or owner eventualy gave up on fixing the bus because it was to big a project or was missing two many parts

I just want to find one built on Nov. 19, 1957.... come on people, let's see who can come up with that bus first
vin# should be ~304273
I was originally considering any bus built on that day but the wife said she wanted the 'little skylight windows and the sun roof'. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

| I'd guess alot more than 500. You can find at least 100 just by hunting various websites and see at least a handful at any good size VW show. There has to be alot more hiding in the bushes. I know of at least 5 55-58 23's just waiting to be plucked that other VW guys don't know about....how many undiscovered BD 23's do most people know about....my guess is none. |

according to my research, due to the demands of the german textile industry, the week up to and including 11/19/1957 included only commercial vehicle manufacture. no passenger buses were produced in this period. she will have to "settle" for a sunroof kombi. |

holy shit yeah, I know that. my latest score involved no less than six trips to a town 450 miles away before I even made contact with the owner of the buses. thankfully, we finally tracked him down and were able to exchange a large amount of cash for a large amount of buses. no early deluxes though. I do know of a few out there that haven't yet been scooped up. _________________ .

I would be interested in seeing that information. Assuming you are serious _________________ How to Post Photos

I've run across a few 58's with vins that suggest a Nov 15th, '57 or so build date. And someone once showed me a picture of a dock in TX (i believe) that had a long line up of busses that were made in November. Someday I'll find it. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices.

It sounded legitimate except for the fact that VW had the resources to increase production pretty easily to match some temporary local need in 1957 _________________ How to Post Photos

| There is a old long closed grils summer camp in Maine that had 4 23 window camp buses . The oldest a 54 or 55 barndoor was bought buy a vw repair shop in Mass. The other 3 were all from the 50's but not barndoors all were in good shape. I never found out the name of the camp But they are most likely still there. |
