That's a beautiful stock car, can I see more photos?

The 5-spoke rims will not fit very well unless you convert the rear to "short" axles.

That 205-80-15 is a pretty tall tire. How much room does the Notch have???? I would think that you might have a rubbing issue. Dont most guys run a 165r15 on the backs????

I have 5 spokes on my lowered 67 squareback. I had to go with 185/65's before i had no rubbing issues. I still have the stock axles.

The American Eagle 5 spokes have thick mounting pads. The pads can be machined down 5/16" (~8mm) to fit better in early Type 3's. That will give you added fender clearance. My car is slightly lowered in the rear and lowered more on the front, tires are 165SR15 rear's and 145SR15 front's.

i willl put 165 on it , i just bougt the car in stock condition, and i'm going to a meet this weekend , dont think there is time to do the other tings - maybe later - thank for your answars, by the way the car is unrestored , cool right ? Very Happy

the tires where mounted on my (now sold buggy) and i think they look
pretty cool - but if they rub rubber on the notch , i better change them.

I'm running 205/60/15 toyo's on 5 spokes. I'd say it's the biggest you can go in the rear. Just from driving it the fender lips have been slightly rolled.
The car is a late 62. I know it's a crappy pic but you get the idea. BTW I haven't driven it since I put the wheels back on so it's still sitting a little high. Here ya go.

That's a beautiful car. Are you sure you want to make it look silly?

I have a 71 sqbk and I would like to know on a 4lug stock rim what would be the biggest tire that I could fit without rubbing issues. I would like to know so that when I change the tires this weekend I can keep the 165's upfront and what ever size is the biggest I can use for that rake stance. Thanks for your help guys as always very knowledgeable people around here, If I ever have any kind of issue with my ride you guys solve right away. Very Happy

Wow, I wouldn't customize a car that is so original.

If you do lower it, please remember to grease the front end A LOT, like every 500-750 miles, so you don't destroy the stock suspension.

And don't forget that changing the size of the front tires will destroy the "original mileage" reading of the speedometer since it will not keep the correct odometer reading when you drive it.

Since I guess this means someone converted it back to 5-lug, are you sure?

i am running 205/70/15s on the rear of my purple notch w/short axles... you really don't want the 80 series tires as they are way too tall! the 205/70s are already 26inches tall and if you don't have a regeared tranny, or are using a stocker engine, you will have issues down the road

sambadude,
that car is SUPER SWEET !!!

if it were me, i wouldn't lay a wrench on that car, but its not my car....
( dream)

a '61 w/ vin xxxxx1 is soooo triple RARE !!

My personal opinion is the early notch's 61-63 dont look as good lowered with empis etc as do the later 64 and up with the wrap around lenses and belt trim etc.. now those cars look great slammed with narrowed everything...

many here are salivating over that early example notch... Crying or Very sad

good luck and happy trails,
rob
