I expect there is no help for a question like that.
I got no help when I asked the Volkswagen Museum in Germany these questions, which I thought would be simple to answer:
1. How many pickups were exported to Mexico (ME code)?
2. How many pickups were made with the foul weather package (Z21)?
They said they could answer neither. And yet, they have the M-codes, do they not?
Perhaps what needs to happen is that someone needs to get all the M-codes from the Museum and enter them all into a database. Then these questions could be answered with a few keystrokes. Of course, the ridiculously hard part is that first bit about hand-entering the M-code data into the database. I wonder what form it is actually in now? _________________ John

You'll have to locate the aluminum plate riveted to the bulkhead behind the RF seat to find that out, and if you want exact production dates and a list of options included you'll want to decode the painted plate behind the LF seat.
220 says it's a stationwagon, some photos would be cool. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I came upon a 1972 bus in the woods and was able to get the M-plate information and I found something interesting about the bus. The original colour of the bus was Hannen yellow and also revealed that the bus was picked up in Germany and not delivered to a dealer. It would be interesting to find more about the history. _________________ 1972 westy deluxe, Niagara Blue

I should add that the paint code is L11R, (Hannen Yellow) and there is a remark below the code that says Hannen Brauerei. _________________ 1972 westy deluxe, Niagara Blue

Hi found this post from years ago, I have a double cab from SA new in similar M code plate layout.I spoke to Wolfsburg Germany Museum and said the following- Serial - 268EA4794717 EA standing for EntwicklungsAuftrag
Translates to "Development order/request?? (sometimes for prototyping) and trying to find information about this or some records is a nightmare.
Did you manage to find anything about yours? |

Hello, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I recently purchased a 1978 vw double cab, in central america. the front of the bus looks like a 1978, but the rear looks like an early 70s model. I decoded the mplate, and it came back as a 1971!!!!
How is this possible? It is registered as a 1978, but has the rear like a 1971, including the original ad coded engine. |

Maybe 1978 was when it was brought into the country?
The front of the bus may have been changed at some time.
Happy Holidays

Let's see all the plates and numbers that you can find on this truck. Sounds interesting! _________________ John

Hey I gots one of those behind my driver's seat too!
Don't confuse it with the similar-looking plate behind the passenger's seat.
