Does anyone know where I can get kick panels that go under the rear seat? WW is the only one I found that lists kick panels but the earliest model they offer is 64. I also need hardware for the heater vents that goes in the kick panel.

Does your '62 have the round rear heat openings or the slit style?

My car has the slit style. Did VW stick with changing model years in the month of August or did it vary from year to year? My car was built Oct/Nov of 62 but did not get changed to the 63 style heating vents. 63-64 models were advertised/built with the round vents on both sides.

VW changed parts on the cars whenever they felt like it.Bill May has the Progressive Refinements CD for CHEAP! It will tell you EXACTLY what your car should have.As for the kick panels, you will have to find a good used set

If you need used ones contact Corki Yager at (352) 521-5660. He has a huge junkyard by the name of Sunray Bugs at:

16016 US Highway 301
Dade City, FL 33525

Its amazing what he has available and he is a very nice guy to deal with. good luck.

Those one-year only kick panels aren't available new that I've ever seen. When I restored my 62 in the early 90's, I went through several junkyards in the region looking for a decent set of 62-only kick panels. I found a few sets, I'm not sure if I have any left though, a lot of my stuff got ruined in a flood several years ago. I need to dig through my stuff in storage and see, because my passenger side panel is looking like it needs replaced again, and if I have any they may be in better shape than what I have now.

62shawn, try these out.
http://www2.cip1.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=kick+panel
I have a 62 as well and when I called CIP1 he told me they had the slit style as well as the 63 round hole style.
Hope this helps

Please verify the vin.

My 63 (stale air) has these for kick panels.

It has a starting production number of 5 05 which would fall between

Sep 5 007 072 and Oct 5 092 087

I would also like to see the "heater setup" for the rear. If possible please provide diagrams or photos.

Thanks

Looks like your car was mfg. Oct 62. Mine was Nov. 62, both cars was probably titled as 63 but retained the stale air heating. Does your car have the hood crest?

I talked about this in a thread recently after 62Shawn asked. I'll quote:

It was 1962 that had just the passenger side having a heater outlet, which was a hole in the heater duct, where a small pipe attached to it. On this, a mult-ply paper hose, that was about 28mm or 30mm in diameter pushed on to it, went past to the battery, then to splittler then down to a heater outlet on either side of the "hump" towards the center of the car.

The hoses were clipped, by the way, to the "bar" under the back seat and the center tunnel, with some bendable sheet metal tabs.

Here's a pic from the factory owner's manual:

Here is pic of those hoses, outside of the car, from a pic of parts I had gathered when I first restored my 62 in the early 90s:

and here is a couple of pictures from inside the car. I have these hosed siliconed into the vent outlets to keep them in place. and the hoses are getting to be in pretty sad shape, note the duct tape.

The oval vent outlet tubes are welded to the floorpan.

No hood crest. I was told that the model year change for the U.S. spec. beetles was in Aug. of the previous year.

The "plumbing" is partially there with the corrugated hose coming off of the passenger side pipe, however it is cut off just past the 2nd bendable tab on the rear seat bar.

Are the sheet metal attachments welded to the floor still available, or the corrugated hose assembly?

And even rarer than those are the vert versions for that year. If you're after stock look then make sure you get the right diameter hose and make sure you have the weird little shaped things that make the hose mate to the kick panel..
