...it's still pretty damn cool.

I've never seen one of these before.

i dare anybody to make a replica of that out of their type 34. it wouldn't be hard. 412 headlight buckets, another set of 34 taillights, and a squareback roof.

That's the rare 4 door Type 34 Karmann Ghia station wagon prototype.

I used to own a '65 2 door Corvair coupe. Fun little car, until it went through 4 quarts of oil in 2 days, and, well, engine became a paperweight. Ever since then, I've been cautious of oil level. Actually, my SB goes through less oil than any other car I've owned.

Why would anyone want to do something that stupid?

agreed. didn't the corvair come with a flat 6? Think i imagine the parts are scarce. they didn't really catch on back then, or since. it isn't surprising that there's no thegreenbriar.com. but it's a nice looking car.i wish my squareback had 4 doors.

Speaking of non-VW station wagons, I recently saw what I thought was a slammed sea-sand squareback. It turned out to be a '60-something two door Volvo wagon. I looked very cool and I haven't seen it since.

Yes, and air cooled.

My brother had one these things back in Kansas in '63. I believe they were available only in '60 and '61. Nice looking car, I drove a neat '63 Monza as a student in late 60's, it intoduced me to oil leaks, also made me worry a bit about dual carb setups.

I've seen a rare double door Corvair van that was all logoed. It's a shame they aren't very desirable, cuz I know of a dozen or so lying in local salvage yards. Think

They were made by Briggs & Stratton. I've seen converion kits to put a 350 in it, though (even a 396, for that matter).

The Chevy answer to VW, I guess, being mid-rear engine/rear-wheel drive air cooled, although unsafe at any speed Shocked

the half axles are really short. i saw a film of a corvair driving on a washboard road. you could see from the side view, the wheels tucking under the car on every bump. very frightening! the same thing has been said about swing axle VWs, but i haven't heard of it happening frequently. maybe it was a tactic by the US auto makers to scare people away from VWs. if you lower it a spline in the rear, it should reduce those tendencies. along those same lines, anybody used those transverse leaf spring camber compensators?

They work very well. I just sold one a couple months ago. Wish now I hadn't.

you mean like this p-dub? http://www.volvoadventures.com/220spec.html
I'm really torn between one of these and a squareback at the moment. This one has obviously been messed with, but the real ones are classy looking, but engines on em aren't the best from what I hear.

It looked more like a wagon version of this model:

I think the Amazon looks much more like the Squareback than the 145 ever could. Just looking at the front end, the Amazon has the rounded fenders with headlights to the outer edge. The 145 is too boxy to look like a square.

while I understand your statement, I found the irony in the statement itself too perfect....

I believe early BMW tail lights will fit a Type 34 with minor modifications.
