Is it worth saving the OG paint even in pretty poor condition?
get it down to the OG paint (however rough) - maybe add some logos

Truck has OG paint under primer that was prepped with something fairly coarse leaving some pretty deep scratches (looks a bit like a tic tac toe board...see pic). We have a young family so we don't really want to go full on resto, and don't have the $$ right now anyway. We'd appreciate anyone's opinions. Wink

That paint is toast, but if money is an issue I'd just leave it as is and drive it until you are ready to do it right.

DO YOU LIKE IT? Thats is the question. I like OG paint. I like rusty stuff that folks ask "you drove from where?!?!" But shiney is cool, too. Its only OG once, but can be shiney when ever you have the benjamins.

I have done tinted primer and it looks good too. See my photos. Flat black is played out. See my red oxide primer bus in photos also. It was flat black for 6 moths. Got old.

I think spot painted OG paint is cool too.
Try to keep as much OG as possible when finished welding, etc.
There are some dudes that are really good at spot painting nowadays.
BTW, you don't know "rough OG paint" until you've seen my bus. Wink

Well, I like the OG paint underneath 100 times better than the primer.

Plus primer is porous so it will lead to more rusting later on, another good reason to remove it!

I like OG. If you want to touch-up the surface rust, don't leave it as primer. you can probably touch-up and get it lackered and that would buy you some time.

I'm not into the rat look myself. If it was me, I'd restore it back to original.

Overly thin O.G. paint, down so thin as to reveal factory primer, is an issue as far as rust promotion/prevention goes as well.
