|
|
I took my radio out last night to clean it and store it. I have some questions about it.
First of all, it's a Sapphire XIV, made by Motorola and is Model #1VW2109, which would seem to be like this one that I found on the internet.
Here is a picture of mine.
See, I seem to be missing a little knob that goes on the volume side...is it missing, or did they make some without it?
Also, see that little hole there, under the tuner? It goes all the way through that plastic face plate, into the metal case behind it. What is that for? Anyone know?
Thanks!
Kim

The control under the volume is the tone (bass/treble). I have no idea what the hole under the tuning knob is for. It doesn't align with anything on the radio.
You're also missing the AM/FM slider. _________________ Glenn

Ahh! Ok. I don't have any evidence of one at all...wondered if maybe it didn't come with it, but I guess some time over the last 36 years, it broke off and got lost...

I know it.
Heck.
Well, I'll keep my eyes out for replacements...

Here's one I sold a few years ago. I sold it on ebay for $175.

AM are a dime a dozen. But if you have a working AM/FM and have the faceplate and it looks mint, you can get some nice money for them.
I saw a NOS Sapphire XIX AM/FM in the box with the NOS speaker sell for $325 on ebay a year ago.
Here's my Sapphire XIX for my 74 Beetle.

Kim, I have a small write up on what that hole is for. If memory serves me it has to do with an antenna volume default setting. I don't want to guess on how to adjust it so I will have a look at the document I have and post what I find out. |

Holy Crap, Batman!!
Still, it was in mint condition, I bet. Mine is not. Hopefully I can find the missing parts somewhere and put it back together. Either way, I just hope it works! I know you set the stations by pulling out then pushing in the buttons, but it doesn't seem to want to go back to the place I set it. That's ok...I don't mind setting it by dial.
I really hope it works! Heh!
Kim
PS: I see that little hole under your tuner knob too... _________________ 1970 Yukon Yellow Beetle

You know, I wondered if it didn't have something to do with the antenna! It appears to go through the radio to a screw that seems to point toward the antenna.
I'd be interested in knowing what your document says...
Thanks!

I think the little hole is for the antenna trim capacitor? some radios have instructions on adjusting it on a sticker somewhere, usually you tune in a weak station around the top of the AM dial and adjust the screw for the best reception, usually that adjustment is on the back side of a radio, I guess they didn't want people looking at them that hard, its not really that noticeable with the radio in the car _________________ There is an idea of a Billmetric; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there... |
