It’s November 15th.
As I recall at about this time last year we had a very bad storm. Lots of rain, but even worse were the heavy winds. I remember coming home and finding my portable building banging up against my bug, damaging the brand new stainless steel chrome trim, leaving a few scratches on drivers door in the clear coat; knocking over a cabinet onto the rear of my bug, gouging the license plate light housing and denting the rear fender. I grabbed some rope and secured the tent to the project fastback that was sitting beside my garage. Problem solved. I was upset, but glad that it wasn’t a lot worse. I learned a valuable lesson and promptly nailed the building supports (it’s feet) into 20 foot 2X10’s, drove long metal bars into the ground at an angle, and fastened the 2X10’s to these metal posts. Solid as it could be… or so I thought.
FYI, I live on 70 acres of blueberry fields so the land is very flat all around my house except for these 60 foot trees all around my house.
Rewind…
I had a brand new interior installed in my oval in August of this year… the job was not very good because the owner of the shop was away on his honey moon, and the employees that installed it just rushed to finish and didn’t really care about the quality. So the owner of the shop saw it and was disgusted, said he would redo it at his expense personally and so I could drive my car for the last of the good weather, we scheduled my car back into the shop for the new interior for November 14th, yesterday. Once this work is finished I am moving the oval into a storage space in a secure heated garage that I have rented for the winter.
Well today I was listening to the radio at work, and they are talking about trees that the wind has literally ripped from the ground, the damage to buildings and property; the 4 story steel building that was under construction in Vancouver that the wind knocked over. 100kmh+ winds, 200mm of rain etc. I really expected to come home and find one of these trees laying in my living room. However this was not the case… Instead, this is what I came home to this afternoon.

I beat the storm by one day. I hope everyone is as lucky as I was. Please make sure your cars are safe. |

How 'bout letting us know where you are from, like update your profile dude...from your story it sounds like you are from the PACNORWEST, or a canuck! I have friends up in Whidbey Island that I talked to this a.m., they said that Oak Harbor lost power from about 1130 a.m, to about midnight, and that Deception Pass was closed due to high winds at about 4 p.m. I used to live in Oak Harbor and remember last year how wet it was, and how windy it gets there, can't imagine it closing down deception pass though, that must have been a wild one! |

Alright Typ311Dave, I updated my profile.
Yup you are right I am from the Vancouver area. Most ferry services were shut down for most of the day, and even the schools were closed today due to power outages. I believe that still many are without power. The winds have died down for now but we are expecting more of the same. |

Yesterday it was 37 below 0 in Fairbanks. Wait until that cold comes down the coast. You will hope for the rain again. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |
