Whats the best way to explain to a wrecking yard grease monkey how to remove the front seats on a GL model(no swivel base) without them destroying the seats? I myelf have never done it but Im buying some seats from this yard and dont want them to mess them up.

Slide forward using the pull-up lever on the side until it encounters the little slide-lock tab. Lift that up to clear, and continue sliding forward. The lock tab may hang up again, it does on my pass. seat. Continue until the set comes off the front of the rails. Anyone with a mechanical mind can figure it out as long as they know there is a locking tab. The tab is visible on the side of the seat rails.

Mention to him, that the locking tab, is tri-angled shaped, and flips up, and then the seat will move forward...just in case he has never removed one before..it might help?

FWIW for the future searchers:

on the passenger side, the tab is inboard & just in front of the triangular seat support (the hinge gizmo)

looks like the two sides are the same seats & can be swapped

Why am I having so much trouble putting the driver's seat back in?

Do I need to pull up on the lever when putting it back in?

seems like the rail on the seat should sit on the front tabs of the seat rail (which are bent down) and then slide back into the rest of the tabs (not bent down) but I just can't get it to slide back into them...

Sad
I'm now on day 2 of this grease wrestling job...

it is really the passenger side seat that I moved over to the driver's side some years ago...

Is this in a Westy? If so, you probably have your swivel reversed. The bent-down tabs are at the rear to act as stops; they prevent the seat from sliding too far rearward. Once you align the rails on the seat with the fronts of the tracks the seat should slide rearward pretty easily, with the flats of the rails under the tabs on the tracks, until they get to the back and hit the stops (the bent-down tabs). If you do not have swivels I do not know what the problem is.
