Nice... you'd have to hold the shifter differently to shift into 2nd and 4th -- I've seen some bench seats that have a "notch" at the front for this.
The "foot" pedals are cute too. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Looks good, though not exactly rainproof, but I'd still need a sheet of plywood across there with an air mattress to sleep in it, and by then I may as well just set up a tent. How tall are you anyways, or have you already stretched out in it? I'm a little bigger than the average galoot, and may be biased. Also my air mattress is only about an inch thick, maybe something requiring a foot pedal would be better.
I vote you post a picture of you snoozing in there. |

Great idea!!
I'm 6'2" and have camped in my Thing - my wife and I slept in the back with the seats down. I could only stand that for 2 nights, I had my legs over the front seats. That front bench would have been very comfy.
I wonder if there are bucket seats that will fold that flat... |

Or find some spare rear seats and weld in the support for them? |

You could finally get that sheet of plywood home, too. Of course, you would have to drive your Thing while laying on your stomach (kind of like the Wright Bros first plane...)

That bench seat is Def out of a Chevy Astro or GMC Safari Van....probably the middle seat if it slides forward and backwards.
Ungly as sin in the Thing...but hey, to each their own! |

I saved the seat for a different project that hasn't happened yet but I just had to see how it fit in a car.
Now I know it won't fit in a bug without narrowing it and the emergency brake would have to be relocated and a notch made for the shifter.
I think there is a little over 6' from the dash to the rear deck metal. |

Well the old joke about..."what's harder than getting 7 pregnant women in a volkswagen?...(answer) getting 7 women pregnant in a volkswagen!" could prove very possible with the now KING SIZE BED option! _________________ PRAISE THE LOWERED.

I noticed that as well, I have one up in the attic and one in the van. In the later years both slide, but the middle one will have a right side arm rest. |

It's the third seat out of something, I don't remember what. It doesn't have any arm rests but it does have slides.
When it's down, there is 6'3" between the dash and the rear package area where it goes up over the motor. |
