I have a VDO oil pressure gauge that I think may be fubar. The P.O. had wired it to the temp sensor and finally just unplugged the power wire on the back of the gauge. Now I put the sensor wire on the correct sensor and re attached the power lead...It just pegs out at 80 psi with the key on. When I first start the car it will read around 60 psi but If the sensor lead is unplugged the gauge pegs out, if the sensor wire is grounded the gauge goes to 0. This is the backwards from what I am used to, all the other gauges I have messed with peg out when the sensor wire is grounded. What do you all think?
Thanks.

NO.......nothing wrong with gauge. This is how they are!
If disconnected to oil pressure switch will peg
If its pegging with switch on and engine isnt running. You will find the connection at the sensor isnt getting really good contact. Mine did this at first and found out the little lock washer that came with sensor was clear coated and I just didnt put it back on and all was fine. So a little scotch bright on screw and thumb screw nut and on wire end...screw it all back together and see if ignition on it still pegs. |
