http://www.rockfordcv.com/Volkswagen_bootkits.htm
suggest 814-21 but most people here say that boot is too small not a great fit
but if you read the pdf doc here
they have another model 335-3/ 335-3A
http://www.rockfordcv.com/PDF%20Downloads/Boot_Assemblies.PDF

and I cant recall maybe here on vanagon list that there
is a better fit rockford boot

any one know what the heck i am talking about

karl-what is with links yah I know 814-21 is tooo small

I had these for my baja bug, I wonder how they would fit on the v-gon? they might be too big inside the trailing arm though (might rub something). If not they'd be just the ticket for syncros that are lifted where the arm is near full extention a fair amount of the time

part # 86-9393-k I hate to say who makes them, Empi Rolling Eyes but they are actually good boots and hardend flanges! Not like theyre colored boots, which last about a day Shocked

they are porshe 930 style boots but made for the 100mm CV's you can get just the boot too if you already have the clamp style flange which is what sounds like you get with the rockfords

OK this an update I spent way too much time on the phone with rockfordcv today
& we figured out what boot they should sell for the vanagon drum roll please ...

its a rockford 339-22 kit this is a cv with the 4 bellows & is about 3/4"+ longer than the 814-21
(that website says is good but word on the street is it too small)

OK see here
http://www.rockfordcv.com/PDF%20Downloads/Boot_Assemblies.PDF
The 339 is boot they list for a
1992-1996 Volkswagen Corrado
1995-1996 Volkswagen Golf III
1995-1996 Volkswagen Jetta III
1990-1997 Volkswagen Passat

Note in the above catalog
339-4 is just a boot
339-4A is an assembly ie a boot with the flange
339-22 is boot, flange, & clamps assembled like youd buy the lobro/empi etc

Key here is that it is not a compression fit of the boot to the flange
but clamp and a metal ridge so thinking is that the boot is gonna tear before its going get spun off the flange if the clamp is torqued up and if it does come off the clamp i am just re-clamping not a full cv r & r

so there ya go and i gonna order 2 units to see if this will fix the spun boots i have experienced

heads up here
Rockford may make good boots BUT they complete suxx when dealing direct
BUY from any of their retailers
I got quoted $34.95 per each 339-22 boot kit
the retail price from their distributors is $19.95 eg german supply, thecvman.com or any other you might find
I found it really odd that before i got to the order desk for the quote a sales guys told me they cant compete in the boot price war with off shore ..
and the businesss was going away,
jeeh he should said how GREAT the quality was & how you dont have to to the cv R&R as frequent as with the offshore even LOWBRO Smile
yah team
DONT DEAL DIRECT

anyone have a good vendor for these things? I've got GW lift springs and think it might be a good idea to but better boots on there to handle the added flex. Where can I score a set of 4 x 339-22 ?

I think I would go with empi 86-9303K or D 100mm is for baja
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C13-86-9303K
maybe bit cheaper here
http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/buggy/trans/buggytran1.htm
TYPE 2 OFF ROAD BOOT KIT W/ FLANGE, 100mm, EACH $ 28.95

They have a more accordion than either the std or the rockford boots but the same attachment as the rockfords boots

I now have both; on the outer are empi & the inner are rockfords so far so good but I need 2-3 years to see if really have solved by issues

Didn't TOTALLY squander the presidents' day holiday... Took the 8 hours necessary to swap out all the CV's. Nice new lobros and some stout looking Rockford boots. I found their customer service to be perfectly acceptable. Talked to a really nice lady on the phone. #339-22 (the 22 is the code for the entire kit, with grease, no bolts), the boots themselves say 339-4 on 'em.

I wasn't able to find any pics of this set up, so here y'all go. These pics appear to all be upside down, but whatever...

Hi Ryan, how have your Rockford CV boots been holding up from your post above? I need some boots ASAP and am still debating the best current product....

Thanks in advance for any input you have!

Is this a good thread to bump? Laughing

The boots that came with my GoWesty rebuilt CV's are failing on me. I'm thinking rockford, since GoWesty stocks them as their "heavy duty" 2WD CV boot kit.

Ok, now I'll do a search.

Who has details about the Silicone boots, are those working out? Where to get them?

I think Chris at T3 Techniques is also selling the rockford boots.

I've had them on my Vanagon for 3 years 60,000km and they are as good as new.

I have the Rockfords and they are thicker that the cheaper boots. They’re also a good bit stiffer and so are harder to flex to get the axles bolted in. I’m sure they use more power to flex, especially for lifted vans that see more axle angle.

Hello all

I have had a set of Rockford CV inner and outer boots on the front of my 1990 Syncro (Go Westy lift springs) for over two years and thousands of miles without any problems. Customer service at Rockford was great.
The other common name brand boots I put on before didn't make it a year.

Hope this helps

I bought mine from Scott at germansupply.com

I have 5000 miles on them (only) so far, but no issues yet.

2WD Westy not modified in any way from stock.

Thanks all. I'm picking up the Rockford's today.

My, I'm guessing Lobro boots, have failed on one joint so far and the rest look cracked as I serviced them. They were 2 years old.

Rockfords are great!

I've them on my rear axles for years now (thousands of miles) and have just replace the failed boots on my new van cafe front axles (lasted 1.5yr Mad ) this summer with Rcokfords too (sourced fromT3). Nice boots that wear well and aren't that much $

~1" Lifted syncro, stock sized LOBRO front CV's and axles & Empi 'race' rear CV's with torsion axles.

I won't worry about boots for a while Cool
