|
Hello All, first post here
I did a lot of reading while I need to replace the fuel sender unit on my 68 Ghia. Some stores show both floater and tube type for the same year. Of course i'd like to buy the correct one first. Are the stores providing the wrong info or VW changed the sender type during rhe production of the 68 coupe ? Really not clear to me. A bit of help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, do I need to only buy the sender and gasket or shall I also consider replacing other parts while at it ?
Oh, and here is on what I'd line to install this :
Thanks All for your help,

"Some stores show both floater and tube type for the same year."
I found when karmannghia.com does this, there's a VIN range added to the description. This is how I figured out I still needed the tube sender. I actually have a '74, but my guage is from a '73 and there was no place to mount a vibrator (which is correct for '74). I looked in my files for the VIN of the '73, matched it against the VIN range on the description of kgpr.com description and got the perfect (repro less expensive) tube sender.
Hope this helps. |

Wow guys, thans so much. I will look into the VIN thing first and then acquire the components. The reason i am changing the unit is that the gauge, which is new, is not steady while driving. I tought of replacing with new parts instead of testing/fixing the actual one.
Many thanks guys for your help, so glad i joined this community.
Cheers

That's the same reason I purchased my sender. I originally bought the vibrator but when I went to install it I found there was no place to mount it on my guage. That's when I discovered the tube sender is the earlier mechanical means of steadying the guage and proper for my '73 (and also that I head to deal with different components for the same year car -- a PO had incorrectly installed the float sender which is listed as correct for some VINs in '73). I don't think the tube sender is as precise as a vibrator, but it does the job as far as I'm concerned. |
