Has anyone tried this? I have heard too many bad things about the inserts, so I am seriously considering this.
Just want to see if anyone has used this and what their experience has been.

I had seen posts of poeple using Krylon fusion paint with good results. I plan on trying it myself before I spend a mint on Cokers. Do a search and you will find some posts with more detail on how to do it. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

I am stuck with dial up so pictures are a pain, but, I painted my tyres with a white liquid co-polymer and was delighted with the results.
After thoroughly cleaning the tyres and removing the "nubs" of rubber I applied packing tape and very patiently used a scalpel to cut the tape around a moulding line. I applied three coats of the co-polymer per tyre to avoid bleed through and when dried, again followed the line with the scalpel to avoid tearing.
This stuff is very flexible, flows very well and good for - 30 to + 125.
It's best to have the tyres off the rims for the most desirable results. _________________ "Chris of the Ozarks"

Here's a copy of a thread from another forum.
right theres 4 ways to do it, here they are:
1) buy white wall tyres, class if you live in america, we dont, so with the tyres i needed being £175+postage i decided this option was out the window.
2) buy white band tyres and grind the outer wall off.... white band tyres are cheaper than white wall tyres....but they actually have a white layer underneath the side wall, and gentle and careful use of a grinding disc at a low speed can remove the black wall and expose the white layer underneath.... last resort if you want a set of "real" white walls.
3) buy white wall tyre flaps... they are shit... if you hit a curb they are ruined, plus they eat into the side wall of your tyre if they arent applied properly ( you need to use rubber grease between the flaps and the tyres etc.
4) make your own.... well in good auld norn iron, the easiest way is too make your own... thats what i did
now.... how do you make your own? you use a white rubber paint, we use a special blend of rubber paint which also has titanium powder added to it to prevent the degradation of the "white" by sunlight.
step 1 :
clean the tyre wall with cellulose thinners...
next tape up the rim...
and then the edge of the side wall you are going to paint too.... i decided on wide as feck whites for the PBoD
paint the tyre....
first coat done on all 4 tyres, ill leave them 24 hrs to cure then do another coat, ill repeat this process maybe 4 or 5 times, just to give a really deep white wall, as the tyres im working with are brand new and they are the hardest to paint

blarneyman,
That looks really slick. If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't have believed it. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

x2
I've seen a lot of these tires done with paint. I'd be interested to see what they look like after 15,000 miles. I've never seen "after" pics. _________________ www.DenverWildlifeControl.com |
