Am about to purchase a steering box (Ghia) and damper. Mid America is a good bit cheaper than KGPR or Bug Haus. Anyone know if this stuff is Chinese or have any experience with MA? |

They are hit and miss. I ordred a "new" single port intake from them, and it looked like a 2 year old welded it together. |

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll stick with one of the local bug stores or KGPR. Appreciate the benefit of your collective wisdom.
I remember a sign I saw in the early 1960s (gulp!) that read

Indeed. Thanks for the heads up. I've been getting their catalogue, and checking/pricing replacement gas tanks for a '70 ghia, theirs was the only one that didn't have a filler neck, never mind one that needed tweaking, and was priced about the same.

I suggest EVERYONE do this, or eventually, we'll be stuck with ONLY the Mid-Americas, CIP1's, etc.

I ended up buying a used tank from a local shop, no filler neck tweaking necessary. Gonna get it cleaned up and restored, then swap them out, cleaning up and restoring the original to keep on the shelf.

I want to extend my personal assurance that Mid America Motorworks stands behind every product we sell. If anyone has any product or customer service issues with Mid America Motorworks, I welcome you to contact me directly and give me the opportunity to make it right.
With regards to MAM being compared to JC Whitney or any other such suppliers- I can not offer my personal opinion on this subject, as I have never ordered from these companies. As far as local shops go- I agree that it is nice to order from such places, but Mid America Motorworks is always here for a wide variety of quality parts when you can’t find what you need from local shops. While we don’t make it a habit to price match, you can contact me any time you find a price on which we are out of line, and I will offer you our best price possible.
Last, I’d like to say that Mid America Motorworks goes above and beyond for our customers in every possible way. We host a Customer Appreciation event every year which is offered completely free to our VW customers. We offer significant support for countless VW clubs and shows. I personally own a 1974 Super Beetle, and am one of many VW owners working here. I am the Sales Team Leader here and I am confident that if you give us the chance, you will be completely satisfied with the outcome. I welcome you to phone or e mail me with any questions or concerns you have at this time.
Sincerely,
Matt Britton

Forgive me Matt, but in this day and age it is your responsibility to know your pricing, not the customers...Perhaps you should be buying from your competitors to learn how to better serve your market.
For me personally, I was turned off by your staff at the Michigan Vintage show a few years ago, and I would rather not call you to discuss it, I just have decided to make purchases else where. _________________ Feel My Pain l Sage Ad World |

well matt,I do price shop.
I might not shop with you all the time but i did get some bumpers with you a month ago and the price was right, the quality was there for what they were.
and to top it off the shipping was at a fair price.
got here faster then some of the other guys i order from.
some things i dont buy because i dont know where it is made or who made it so if you all can work on the discription a little i know it would help me decide.
becasue if i dont know,i dont call and ask,i go somewhere else.
we are your target consumers.
please take some of what people have said as constructive and work with it and your sales might go up a little bit,or alot!
well,good luck. |

Although I have never purchased from any of the above named companies, I personally wouldn't mind giving MAM a chance at my money after reading what Matt just wrote. It seems to me he is genuinely trying to stand behind his product. Which is more than I can say for a different company advertising here on the Samba. **Cough**Kewl**Cough**. Matt, you may want to rephase one part of your statement. As it can be read at least 2 different ways.

I know it probably goes without saying, but most people only want 1 thing when it comes to quality and that is HIGH.
It can also be read has having a "wide variety of parts that are considered quality parts".
Good for you and standing behind your products.
Sage,
I am not aware of your personal experience, but if you don't give the company a chance to make it right, then you might have an opinion that is unjust. Not sure what happened, but it looks as if the company is reaching out to make sure people are treated right. I am sure your experience happened well before this thread, but what can giving him a call hurt? _________________ (16:05:01) twinwindows: She prolly got a bigger dick then you

I'll be damned if I ever by anything by an outfit that's run by a bunch of Corvette guys.
Here's a big one I want to see answered: Why are the aftermarket gas tanks such absolute SHIT? How hard is it to demand that your supplier provide fuel tanks where the filler neck actually lines up??? I've seen many complaints about that one item on this forum over and over and over. Actually, keep selling that piece of crap, because then I can keep making money on my good, used tanks. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Alex,
Trust me when I tell you that it is very likely that some members of this company really couldn't careless about ACVW. If I put 10 pre 67 vehicles in front of these people, they wouldn't be able to tell you very much about them. When I buy things, having a working product knowledge is important for me. Calling them "Hippie Vans" isn't the best way to communicate interest in the hobby. _________________ Feel My Pain l Sage Ad World |

Let me clarify.
The two other catalogues I referenced, Air-cooled and KGPR (KGRP?) offered tanks with filler necks, both noting adjustments would be needed. Based on referencing those two and MAM's catalogue, I concluded, perhaps prematurely, no one is making a new tank for a '70 ghia with a filler neck that aligns correctly. All were similarly priced, but only the MAM tank had no filler neck.
