1962 Meyers Manx

There is a "Meyers Manx" on ebay that is one of only 311 produced in 1962. What makes that really special is that Bruce didn't finish building old Red until 1964. This one is also made with woven fiberglass cloth instead of fiberglass mat, like all other Meyers Manxes.

BL3Manx....Have you ever seen my Manx in person @ some Manx Club event ? According to Bruce it is " the oldest pan car I have seen !" It was laid up by hand, with layers of "cloth" NO MAT, NO CHOPPER GUN. It is NOT 1/2" thick, it is relatively thin compared to the "newer" bodies that are as we say ...."shot from guns!" The Manx in the ad is NOT one of the "early" pan cars !!!
My Manx was assembled by Roger Smith from Peppertree Automotive in Costa Mesa, Ca. in 1965.....I am owner #2.....

Nice Manx, did they cut the rear wheelwells?..too bad back's cut. I'd lose that steering wheel

Definitely a body from the late sixties or early seventies. Yes, it has been cut up quite a bit - both the license plate area and the rear fenders have been hacked. The VIN indicates the pan is a '62, so maybe that's where they got that idea from.

I don't care for the steering wheel or the pin striping, but to each his own. The front turn signals look like trailer clearance lights.

Overall, it's a very nice looking buggy, but it is being mis-represented as one that was built before the Manx was invented. I also doubt the people in the Manx Registry appreciate their names, phone numbers, addresses, and buggy IDs being posted on the Internet.

Bill, I learned something. The earliest floorpan Manxes did have woven fiberglass fabric laid over the top.

I would like to take a close look at your Manx sometime.

I think the word "restored" is severely overused and abused. If they restored this buggy they would have fixed the hack job on the tag area and fixed the rear fenders. And technically it should be re-gel coated to the original color, not painted if it is "restored". But that is splitting hairs. I don't know the proper terminology for this buggy, maybe "fixed up". Not restored. And neither is mine nor will it be restored. Just my $.02

If I ever happen upon a Monocoque it will be restored. Very Happy

I bet that won't happen.

My old blue Manx has one piece of cloth in the upper rear shelf area. The rest is mat or chop.

Bill does yours have the vacuum hose tubes? If so do you have any pictures of that area? I have never seen one like that. Also strange that the seller omits pictures of that area, one of the most telling features of the Manx.

Any guesses on what the slot/hole is just above the "hack job" on the rear? Looks like a hole, but cannot tell. Maybe 1 1/2 wide and 10 to 12 inches long.

Don't like the steering wheel either, would prefer a wood/3 spoke EMPI style.

I got a "I think It's a Meyers" and I just tossed some pictures over to our Bruce to help me figure it out...After you said that yours was a thin / cloth laid car. I almost cried and thought you were my long lost Brother... Very Happy

The reinforcing tubes should go from even with the firewall in front to the firewall in back. The first floorpan Manxes with the tail end like Bill's were made with woven fabric over loose fiber, but by the time they had changed the rear skirt to the later style, they were using a chopper gun.
